Your Pbass that isn't a Pbass.

Like @Isaac_James and @ToddB1963 , I’ve found that the Yamaha BBs do an impressive job at simulating the P thing. I do keep an authentic Fender P in the stable, but my BB415 is a serious contender.

3 hour nightime outdoor gig on New Years in New Enlgand. Would you do it?

This. IMHO, hypothermia would be the least of your worries.

R.I.P., George Newall – Co-creator of 'Schoolhouse Rock'

George Newall, Bob Dorough, Dave Frishberg and Jack Sheldon certainly influenced my youth in a big way. Rest in peace, George. George Newall, ‘Schoolhouse Rock’ Co-Creator, Dies at 88

Are bassists more susceptible to GAS than guitarists or keyboardists, or about the same?

Agreed. Every NAMM show has the synth makers claiming that they’ve discovered a new “secret sauce” to more accurately emulate a B3, or introducing a new means of achieving “virtually unlimited polyphony” (when you purchase their insanely-expensive add-on module, of course). Like Apple with...

Help me find my new bass

Ah, well then you might also want to check out the offerings from Bacchus – a Japanese-built line highly regarded by many here on TB. May be slightly above your price range, but you might be swayed by the quality.

Help me find my new bass

Not sure where you’re located, but the later wood-bodied, Indonesian-made Ibanez EDBs pop up from time to time on the U.S. pre-owned market within your price range. I’d also keep an eye out for the older Japanese-made Ibanez Roadstar II models, such as the RB850. @Standalone might be able to...

Drummer quit! We didn’t even have to fire him!

The irony here is that the best-paying gigs are generally secured by musicians who are well regarded in their market and are easy to work with. So whatever his reason(s) for demanding better compensation, he would need a wholesale change in skill level and attitude to reach his goal...

    Fretless Fender PJ-555 NBD!

    Congrats! I would've Fall-en for it, too.

    Your Favorite TV theme song.

Until I was about 30 years old, I was absolutely convinced that Archie opened the song with: "By the wigglin' milla blades..."

    best electric razor?

Another vote for Braun. I have an older Series 3, but replacement parts (e.g., foil & cutter replacement head) are easily found online.

    Quotations you remember

"If you don't know where you're going, any road'll take you there." – George Harrison, "Any Road" from Brainwashed (2002, posthumous) "He never hated anyone. His mother knew what my mother always knew: Hatred corrodes the container it's carried in." – former U.S. Senator Alan Simpson eulogizing...

what's your favourite Elton John song

Probably "Amoreena" from Tumbleweed Connection (1971). I first heard it during the opening sequence of Sidney Lumet's 1975 film, Dog Day Afternoon. It's the only music in the entire movie.

    Struggle With The Audience

Interesting that the article quotes Robbie Robertson about his experience backing Bob Dylan. Levon Helm was so upset by the audiences’ reactions that he eventually left the band – then still known as The Hawks, and not yet The Band – and stopped all musical pursuits for a while, even taking a...
