Try all the different brands and models that you can afford. Afford, meaning don't get a NOS Telefunken 12AX7 ribbed plate "just because." Try some stuff out like Sovtek (super cheap, durable, and damn loud), JJ (cheap, a little more harmonically rich), Tung-Sol and all that stuff...

A used Ampeg SVT-3 Pro will run you around $400-$500 and would hit most of the bases you need it to. Heck, a TB'er (I forget his name) scored a brand new demo unit from GC for $150. Be sure to run it at 4 ohms with as many speakers as you can get. The Avatar B212N (1 @ 4 ohms or 2 @ 8/each)...

I found that when I had the graphic EQ on and only boosted the level to "+10" it really made the amp sing. Great score, duder! I just spent $450 on a used one and feel like a chump!
