    Potting already shielded pickups

I know that the pickup comes potted from the factory, but one day the bass caught so much sunlight that even the pickguard melted, probably it was what caused the problem on the pickup in the first place. And the coils were glued correctly on the assembly, with foam underneath. I never had a...

    Lemmy Kilmister

Learn how to play with a pick, get a bass with a pickup near the bridge and play with distortion. You're good to go. :D

I'm having microphonic feedback, that's why I want to pot it.

    3 Finger Technique

I used to play 3-2-1-3-2-1 but, in my opinion, it has a big problem. Playing groups of even notes (2,4,etc) like that makes the starting note being played by a different finger every time, which to me is very confusing and makes very hard to maintain a steady groove. With 3-2-1-2-3 you can use...

    Potting already shielded pickups

Hello guys, I've got a problem that I really can't get my head over, it's the following.... My Seymour Duncan SMB-4D really needs to be potted, but the pickup is shielded with copper foil from factory (see picture at the end, not mine). Also, I'm thinking about using a bit more extra foil in...

Microphonic SD SMB-4D (MM ceramic) pickup

If I want to pot it will have to remove the coils from the casing right? Should I just press them down to take them apart or is there a better method?

Microphonic SD SMB-4D (MM ceramic) pickup

Hello everyone, So I been playing with my bass (OLP MM with stingray preamp) for a while with my band and I've noticed that the bass has a lot of feedback/squeel, even if I mute all the strings. I have to roll the volume knob down to shut it up. I though it was related with the big amounts of...

Seymour Duncan SMB-4D hums when in series

So I've been messing around with my multimeter and I found that the green wire (front coil ground wire) and the front pole pieces are "conected", it beeps when I touch both with my multimeter, although it doesn't happen with the other coil. Also when connected to the amp, touching the front pole...

Seymour Duncan SMB-4D hums when in series

I'm sorry, but I think you didn't understand my problem. When I put the switch in series, both sides of the pickup work and it's louder and with less treble and more low mids. The pickup works indeed in series but has lots of hum, that's the problem.

Seymour Duncan SMB-4D hums when in series

Yes, it is in series and hums a lot. I'm going to have to remove the pickup, right?

Seymour Duncan SMB-4D hums when in series

Hi folks, I've got this problem for a while and it's killing me... So I'm using a smb-4d on my OLP MM with a preamp and a parallel/series switch. In parallel, the bass sounds just fine but when I put the pickup in series the bass just hums as hell. I've seen this thread...

    Buying a new bass

The Fretrocket thing is quite nice but I don't know where to buy one in Europe. Does anyone know? I don't want to buy one from the states. :( About the bass I guess if I ask the owner to do a set up how I like I can pretty much see if it has a problem. The thing is that I don't want to end...

    Buying a new bass

Well folks, probably I'm going to buy a new bass tomorrow, a new Squier Precision Bass Vintage Modified that a local shop is selling. So I want to use this bass for a really long time and since I had some kind of problem in all basses I've purchased (twisted necks, bad fretting, screwed up...
