Buying a new bass

Well folks, probably I'm going to buy a new bass tomorrow, a new Squier Precision Bass Vintage Modified that a local shop is selling.

So I want to use this bass for a really long time and since I had some kind of problem in all basses I've purchased (twisted necks, bad fretting, screwed up neck pocket, etc).
I would like to know some tips before I buy this bass. Something like what problems or quality issues I should look for in the bass to not have a bad experience again. :rollno:

I would really like to buy something good for a low price so I wait for your answers.:hyper:

I had a VM jazz (traded it...stupid me) and it was the 2nd best bass I ever owned. the VM line is cool & i'm sure you'll love your new P. you'll probably know if you have problems just by playing with it & messing with it. you know, look down the neck & play every string on every fret, use all the knobs etc etc. you'll be fine. sorry you had bad experiences but MOST brand new basses are in pretty good shape.

good luck & hope you love it!

Is the VM P-bass you're looking at the new amber colored one? Those are very nice. The original version white ones are also good. Be sure to play it throughly as has been suggested, to be sure there are no dead spots on the neck. It is a budget bass, so you do get what you pay for. Also if you can, have them set it up for you so it will play it's best right away. The neck is easy to adjust. You may like your action slightly different from the factory setting.

The Fretrocket thing is quite nice but I don't know where to buy one in Europe. Does anyone know? I don't want to buy one from the states. :(

About the bass I guess if I ask the owner to do a set up how I like I can pretty much see if it has a problem. The thing is that I don't want to end with broken parts or serious issues after buying it.
Does someone has to say something about it?
