You're right- everything I've heard about Rondo's customer service has been very positive. There are certainly companies that are doing a better job than TBC - Rondo is one (although they are the dealer, not the manufacturer), and I've had great experiences with Washburn.

I believe the pre-2002 MIM fender jazzes had pickups that can't easily be replaced by aftermarket pickups. If you plan on changing the pickups, that's something to consider (if the bass is pre-2002).

I think its a scam. I've never heard of ebay holding a payment until the buyer inspects an item. You can have a separate escrow company do that, but I'm pretty sure that ebay doesn't provide that service.
