Don't see Rotosound 88s on the list. I like the sound I get from them on my MIM Jazz fretless. I know, not a P, but I have TIs on my P and love the sound from them, but the OP said those didn't do it for him.

It's the same difference as people who read to be entertained and those who read for the construction of the story. Not much in depth and conscious effort in understanding the structure of the prose when all you want to find out is whodunnit.

Play what makes you happy. I'm adjusting to my Bass VI and loving it. Yeah, not really the same as I haven't added a lower string, but I still get looks from time to time.
