I'm flabbergasted by my new bass!

That's awesome! I'm still kicking myself for not picking up a '58 recently that has since been sold. Yes, I'm sure that modern basses are better in most respects, but you can't reproduce history and 'mojo'... although some of the fake 'relics' are trying to!

    All-tube amp advantages?

Sooo......... V4B or 100T? On paper, they look quite similar. I imagine they're probably not. Unfortunately, there aren't any music stores here that stock them. So I rely on the awesome experience and advice of TBers! It's basic P-bass classic rock, 60s/70s pop, etc I'm playing. Nothing that...

why do amp specs never show what is lowest note they can perform?

Here's a useful subwoofer/amp/cab tester: Online Tone Generator - Generate free low frequency tones to test your subwoofer. Lots of other useful stuff on that page, too. Here's a great sounding time-stretcher, great for slowing down tracks to learn: Free Online Time Stretcher |...

Fender American Pro P/J Bass B-string... any good?

I'm in the market for a passive 5-string. I don't have access to decent music stores where I live. What's the general consensus on the usefulness of the Fender American Pro B-string? Too floppy? Muddy? OK? Thanks in anticipation!

    All-tube amp advantages?

I suppose the 25 watt setting on the 100T lets you achieve that "sweet spot" at a lower volume.

    Black or Natural?

It's a personal thing, but I wouldn't want to cover up a beautiful piece of wood with paint. But, I can see manufacturers needing to cover up an ugly chunk of wood. Then again, there's always transparent black!

Learn a lot of songs or master a few??

I'm learning theory and to sightread. That's the way I learned trumpet a long time ago. To me, it's better than rote-memorizing a bunch of songs. It's fun and useful to be able to just read the music. It also makes it easier to improvise from a chord sheet. It certainly makes playing new songs...

    All-tube amp advantages?

I do like the idea of a nothing but a passive bass, all-tube amp, cab, and my fingers! And maybe a tuner...

    All-tube amp advantages?

Now that sells it to me! And that! And it's probably a lot harder for some low-life scumbag to steal a 50 pound amp from a bar...

    All-tube amp advantages?

So it boils down to the "intangible old-school feeling knowing that there's not an integrated circuit in sight, that all sound is flowing through living, breathing, glowing tubes" then?

    All-tube amp advantages?

Having said that, I wouldn't be surprised if there was an IC or two lurking in the innards of the Bassman...

    All-tube amp advantages?

Is there a certain intangible old-school feeling knowing that there's not an integrated circuit in sight, that all sound is flowing through living, breathing, glowing tubes?

    All-tube amp advantages?

I'm glad to read that "lower reliability" isn't necessarily an issue. I'm still planning on keeping a small class-D backup, just in case...

    All-tube amp advantages?

OK. Apart from increased cost, weight and maintenance, and lower reliability, what are the actual tangible benefits of all-tube bass amp design that cannot be accurately reproduced in modern solid-state design? Thanks in anticipation! P.S. I'm looking for a really good reason to spring for a...
