That's not how it works. Your body (through the skin of your fingertips) has to connect to string ground. That's why passive basses/guitars buzz when you take your hands of the strings. With nylon coated strings this doesn't work, regardless of whether the core of the string is grounded...

What am I missing here? The nylon tape wrap removes string ground. The bass buzzes (talking vintage style passive basses). I actually like the sound of tape wounds, but this is a deal breaker. Have people played them since the 1960s and just lived with the buzz?

Are you not getting grounding issues with them? This bass had old black nylon tape wounds on when I got, and I was getting some buzz from the missing string ground.

Simple baby wipes do the exact same thing as Fast Fret and all the similar stuff. It's also safe on finishes and wood.

It needed a fret leveling and recrown, and aset up. I'm a guitar tech. Plays fantastic now. The bass was semi-local to me, I went to look at it in person and made a deal. It's very light, too, and 100% stock.

I'm not in NZ. There's a fully original, clean fiesta red '73 Musicmaster bass in a local music store here for $900. It's been there for a year.

I saw that, but there's gotta be a ballpark. A P-Bass is typically 8 to 10lbs, that kinda thing. Anybody on here have one of these mythical things?
