Fender pre-CBS Club: pics mandatory!

It has never been a problem. I recorded an entire album with it in two different studios and it wasn't a problem. I went direct and also a mic on an amp in another room. But, on a rare occasion at a gig if I am to close to my amp I can get a hum.

This bass bears the mark of a factory refinish - a 4-digit embossed stamp on the neck heal.
Evidence points to 1964 as the year it was returned to Fender. The reasons why are lost to history.
*Apparently, it was just more practical for Fender to replace the body than it was to refinish it.
(After all, Leo designed parts to be replaceable, and disposable!)
The body was replaced with a '64, or possibly a '63 (??), as it appears the individual mutes continued to be used after the factory refinish, and the brass ground strap continued to be the sole bridge ground.

Original slab neck & tuners dated 10/60.
Pots (39th wk of 60)
Control plate, knobs, bridge, and bridge cover are original.

It’s my birth year bass, so I kinda need it. You understand. I’ll trade you a 1963 P-bass for it.

I like em quite a bit! Theyre different than labellas, but it's a welcome different. I actually found some NOS half wounds from the 70s in the case of the 60, never even thought to look in there so now those are on the bass. Stiffest .100 gauge strings ever but they sound alright too.

I use these on an old 80's P. I'm not a flats lover by any means, but I've spent a ton trying most brands. The Dunlops feel most like rounds as far as elasticity goes, so very flexible. And them being stainless they feel and play like the full metal string they are, where others' low tension flats feel so plastic-y (or nylon-y) to me.
