Anyone know precisely when tort guards were introduced in 1959? I might pull the trigger on a 1959 P but without any serial on the neck it’s hard to know. All the tort 59 P’s I saw on google had a higher s/n. Pots are also from 58 so I’m considering the pickguard might not be original, or 59 was a transitional year ? Either way it’s old pre-cbs!
Can I just say how beyond the moon I am in joining this group.
Here is my December 10, 1952 Precision all original (yes the body has been stripped).
It sounds beyond awesome, it's LIGHT, sounds great and looks all the mojo that it is.
Anyone see this signature yet?

I don't think I've ever seen Tadeo's full name written on a neck, much less in cursive. My '52 had his initials & date and the body had his full name in print & date. Love these little details from the past.

Very sweet bass! I used to have a May’53. I believe “Tadeo” would be Tadeo Gomez, noted advisor to Leo, known for his neck shaping skills and more. Usually necks he crafted are signed “TG”. It’s a keeper!
Tadeo Gomez didn't advise Leo. TG was a laborer, and a very talented one at that, who had several jobs at Fender, from the wood shop to janitorial duties.
Playing Queen tunes for the local Russian community. My 60 P thumps at rehearsals! Couldn’t ask for anything better. 
Well maybe I could ask for something better… those who use pre cbs P basses and flats, what experience do you have with aguilar compressors? My Seymour Duncan Studio bass has been my go to for the past 6 or so years and Im wondering if an aguilar would be an improvement.

I'm looking to put my own flats on my new '52 i was able to aquire.
I have cobalt flats on my other p bass but i generally play bright rounds. The cobalts are nice and chimey but I'm worried that might sound bad on a single coil 52.
I don't like high tension and prefer bright basses for the over drive and other fun on my pedal board.
I'm torn between just going with cobalts or the Dunlop flats or finally trying TIs. Not a fan of labellas (just putting that out there).
I generally play rock and prog but do get into country and blues. I also enjoy playing with a plectrum when the song calls for it.
Anyone with a 52-55 p with the single coil pickup have any experience with different flats?
Some feedback would be great.

My SCP is a 2007 Custom Shop, it’s wearing the old Fender flats without silks. The Dunlop flats are probably closer to them than the Cobalts. I’d give them a try and see if you like them.
I play Labella flats on my 1953 P (and both my Custom Shop Reissues). They make a dedicated string through body flat which I love: 760FS-TB Deep Talkin’ Bass Flats – Standard 45-105, Thru-Body
I've used Pyramid, LaBella, GHS [heavy gauge], Fender, and for the last 20 years TI flats. The TI's just seem to bring out the best in every bass. The Fender flats are nice too but prefer the lighter tension of the TI's.
I already bought the TIs and got them on 
I play with round cores on all my roundwound strings so i thought I'd for sure like them. And i do! They have a clunk clank sound when i dig in at the neck and sound real tight when i okay with a plectrum.
If i can leave these on for a couple years I'd be happy as they are way too much money to replace often

You can leave them on for a couple of decades. In the end, they might be the best value in strings available.I already bought the TIs and got them on
