Who plugs straight into a PA?

I saw that. Didn't see anyone using exclusively PA gear, just bass guitar gear.........ie no mixer, no crossover into PA cabs etc. Big difference between the above PA gear and dedicated bass guitar cabs/amps etc.

Who plugs straight into a PA?

Bass -> Direct Box -> Mixer -> crossover / EQ / compressor -> Amplifiers -> Subwoofers + tops Maybe a tuner in there too, but no pedels or effects. Who has done this and what are you thoughts? In my experience, this is a completely transperant system that does not color the sound...

    Manufacturer specs for action

How many people have their bass set up to manufacturer specs......relief in neck, bridge and nut set up etc.??? MusicMan specs seem to yield what I percieve to be high action and I would prefer a tad lower. Is it abnormal to prefer lower than what the manufacturer says??

Just tried an American standard jazz bass... :(

Either your crazy, you were doing something wrong or you are used to something else with a different tone that made the Jazz appear to be lacking somehow.

How do you define low end? Output below 100hz? Output below 70hz? Or..............?? If you are going to say "no low end," you must have some kind of reference point.

Why shop by looks? It may be in your interest to shop with your ears as opposed to your eyes.

Are cosmetics that important in a bass??

Look at it this way. A number of people love the way the Bongo sounds, but wont use it due to it's looks. Nothing else really sounds like the Bongo. Some people religiously stick to vintage looking burst finishes, as such they wont use a Warwick, even though they like the sound. Nothing...

    Pickup removal

I looked into doing this with a Stingray. The bridge pickups on the HH / HS models are in a different spot than they are on the H model. So, you can't pull your existing pickup and pickguard and replace the pickguard with a H model pickguard. The pickguard would have to be custom or the...

Are cosmetics that important in a bass??

But, if you like the sound of the Bongo but refuse it based on looks, then what? What else is going to sound like the Bongo? Nothing really. The Bongo is just one example. This is where looks become too important.

Are cosmetics that important in a bass??

I have always understood my own logic in bass selection, but I don't always understand others. For instance... "The bongo is a great sounding bass. I would be all over it if it werent for it's looks". "Man I want to get a Ric, those things are so sexy" Some buy for the looks. Some...

Are cosmetics that important in a bass??

Well I have about $3k total invested in 2 EBMM basses. I could have bought boutique looking basses, but I felt the extra cost that benefited nothing other than looks was pointless when the EBMM basses play just as well if not better, not to mention I really like the sound and build quality of...

Are cosmetics that important in a bass??

If a bass looks like a work of art and I wanted to keep it that way looking really nice and all, I would be too afraid to do anything with it other than look at it. I prefer a bass that does not call attention to itself via it's looks, good attention or bad attention.
