A great place to buy a bass

Just wanted to share my personal experiences with buying from Greg at Rocket Music. In short - if you can arrange the trip to Blacksburg to visit the store in person, I highly recommend it for three reasons: 1) It's a rare treat to be able to check out so many nice basses in one stop. I was...

    Motorcycle Bass Rig

I know it's not for you, but I just can't shake the visual of mounting the Ampeg 8x10 on a sidecar subframe and riding the whole rig onstage at the beginning of the gig. It would definitely attract some attention. Sounds like a great schtick for a psychobilly band.

    Its 1-12s for me.

I had been driving an Aguilar GS112/GS112NT stack with a BBE BMax preamp and a Crown XTi2000 power amp. It was pretty good, but it just wasn't the Rig of Doom I was hoping for. Meanwhile I had an Epifani UL110 that I use for practicing solo (this is my favorite single cab) and I had an Ampeg...

    SWR Workingman's 12

My ultra-portable setup is a Genz-Benz ML200 head with an Epifani UL110 cabinet (20 lbs. in each hand). I am reinforcing it through the PA using the XLR out on the head (and I don't think this rig could carry the day if I did not). However - the sound is killer; very full and punchy. This is...

    amp help

In your price range, I'd say you're probably better off looking on craigslist or e(vil)Bay. There are definitely deals to be had in the TB classifieds (I have done fairly well myself), but they tend to be on higher-end gear. When I was in the market for a $300 bass amp, I ended up with a...

SOLD Lakland 44-01 Fretless w/Rare Maple Board!

The body is most likely ash of some sort. The neck is definitely maple - more importantly, so is the fingerboard. Cool configuration. Maple fingerboard AND upgraded electronics. Very nice. If this were a 5-string I might have some very serious buyer's remorse right now.

Newbie female bass player seeking advice

My $.02 (from a player with carpal tunnel issues and less-than-impressive finger span): 1) When it comes to warning signs of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, don't mess around. To a large degree, CTS can be controlled just by addressing ergonomic issues in your day-to-day activities (this is all it...

    Keep or sell?

+1. As an engineer, I tend to think of this as "development expense" for my bass rig. Sometimes you buy a piece of equipment that seems like the right thing at the time and then in the course of using it you learn that it didn't really fit your situation. That is unavoidable, so don't punish...

    Question about package bass.

From a pure financial standpoint, +1 on Roadman. Your money will go farther if you sell the Squier and pick up a nice used bass. Beyond the money: I have done upgrade projects on a couple of guitars and I found it very interesting to experiment with using different components on the same...

    Replacement nut for strap locks...

I agree with M10x0.75. By chance I ran into a technician in our building shortly after I posted who had a metric thread gauge and we measured the thread on the strap lock. The thread pitch is definitely 0.75. We also tried threading a 3/8"-32 control nut on the post and (no surprise) that...

    Replacement nut for strap locks...

I am also having this problem. I think the Schaller strap locks might be threaded 3/8" x 32 so that you can use the same nuts that are used to fasten knobs and jacks. Does anyone know whether or not this will work? BTW I have been looking all over the Stew-Mac site; it looks like they do...
