Quick and accurate tuner for 5 string!!

Does anyone have experience with the Planet Waves pedal tuner?

Say to compare to the Boss pedal?

I got one of those little "strobe" tuners free w/ a pack of guitar strings. I thought it was a joke until I tried it out. I wouldn't rely on something that small for live, but in the studio it is really good. accurate! I've been meaning to get one for bass . . .

To the OP I use boss tuners. both the pedal and the popular other one. I HATE them both! tracking sucks! the mic BLOWS for acoustic.

I tried the peterson and thought it was a bit too much info, and couldn;t get the thing to "stay" on tuned. I really don't care how much my instrument is out of tune, only about when it IS in tune . . . but that's me:eyebrow:

But you do realize that "how much you are out of tune" is exactly the same as "how much you are in tune"? :) I guess you mean as long as you're in the ballpark, you don't need to fuss with the fine tuning; a lot of players will agree with that view.

The reason you couldn't "get the thing to stay on tuned" was because your instrument was not staying in tune, or your intonation was off. Lesser tuners just don't tell you that, which is probably comforting.

I have both, the Planet Waves is OK, but it emits a buzz when I use it on my pedalboard. What I mean is, If I'm going straight into the pedal and an amp it works normally, but if I go out of the pedal and through other pedals before going to the amp it has an audible buzz that comes through the speakers as I'm tuning.

No big deal, but a little weird. It's fast though and has no problem with the B string. It's also true bypass when it's off, which I like.

The Boss is good too, seems to be a little more accurate, but not quite as fast as the Planet Waves. It's dead quiet on my board. Weighs a lot less too if that's an issue for you.

I had the planet waves tuner and it works so-so, but I definitely couldn´t read it in bright sunlight, outdoor gigs inpossible.

I haven´t tried the boss.

I now have one of these 20.- clip-on tuners on my headstock, to save pedalboard space also, and it works so-so, but on the low B I need the octave harmonic most of the time.

btw, it doesn´t matter if your fretted bass is intonated correctly or not, the octave harmonic is always one perfect octave above the open string, right?
