Its 1-12s for me.

I've had 8's, 15's, 2x10's, and 12's of varying quality.

My favorite is the Epifani UL2-112 ... I sold everything else.

My least favorite for a standalone was the 2x10 (Avatar)... just didn't go low enough for me.
------------------

I use an Ag GS112 and an Avatar BR210 Neo. My head is a Carvin BX1200, and I crossover at about 200-250 depending on the room and my mood. The Ag handles the bottom and the Avatar the mid to highs. I like an articulated sound, and this setup gives me that according to musicians that have been out to my gigs.

I got one pair of GS112s, based on reviews here...sold all my other cabs and bought a second pair. I've been totally free of cabinet G.A.S. ever since. They work just fine with all of my amplifier variations and I have fallen in love with the modular concept.

Hmm... I've always played 10s - for twenty years or so now. I've tried 12s in the past and never really liked them. Then I found the website. I've now got two PS112s and an LMII, but haven't gigged it - I haven't been onstage or in a practice hall for about 13 months. (I still have my 810, 210, and 210 combo in the basement.)

This weekend, I have an audition, and I'll be taking a single PS112 and the LMII. Hope I like 'em this time around, because my equipment-mover SUV died and I just bought a much smaller sedan - not sure I can even get the 210 combo in the trunk.

Love em or hate em, I'm just glad to be getting back into it - its been too long since I've been aggravated by drummers and guitar players not learning their parts!

How'd the audition go and are you digging the 2 x 112 stack?

I had been driving an Aguilar GS112/GS112NT stack with a BBE BMax preamp and a Crown XTi2000 power amp. It was pretty good, but it just wasn't the Rig of Doom I was hoping for. Meanwhile I had an Epifani UL110 that I use for practicing solo (this is my favorite single cab) and I had an Ampeg PB110 knocking around. I saw that other users reported favorable results with using an Eminence Deltalite 2510 in the PB110, so a few weeks ago I made the switch.

Last time I played out, I brought all four cabinets - drove the Aguilar stack on one channel and the UL110 / PB110 stack with the other. WOW! Just the sound I was looking for: very clear, articulate, punchy, and to say that rig would cut though the mix was an understatement. Plenty of headroom.

My cabinet GAS is cured. However, I can't help from wondering what this pile of cabs would sound like if driven by a ShuttleMax 12.0...

Why are people choosing a 2X112 stack, instead of a 2X12 cab? Is it ease of transportation?

Yes, the two 1x12s fit much better than a 2x12 would. I also have a nothing greater than 50 pounds rule.

But also I take my 1x12 combo by itself to practices. If I need more than a 1x12 for practice, I am in the wrong band ;)

So two 1x12s are just more flexible than a 2x12.

12s are great. I just posted sound clips of my dual Genz Benz NeoX-112T stack compared to a dual Bergantino HT115 stack mic'd with dynamic & condensers. Played w/ GB Shuttle 6, Fender jazz and a Steinberger fretless. Both sound terrific, different but both are great. The matrix and signal chain are at this link: http://ukiahbass.wordpress.com/

Dude, that is an awesome bit of work. Thanks for doing this. I can imagine it will useful for others.

Two reasons for me. Fits in the car easier than wrestling with a big cab. And I can get the stack much taller when.... well, stacked.

Today I played my UL112s1 X2 and my LMII outside at a grand opening of a Harley Davidson dealership. Sounded superb. Surpringsly tons of lows considering I was playing directly on pavement and had the glass showroom right behind me. I had the gain on my LMII at 1:00 and the vol at a hair past 9:00 and it was plenty loud. Could go much louder.

Very satisified with these cabs stacked together.

But man, it was cold playing outside for four hours. Just as we were packing up it began to snow heavily. Fun gig.
