Its 1-12s for me.

I'm digging my 212 box too (TecAmp s212)! It doesn't put out quite the thunder of a 410, but I like the footprint and the even, tight tone.

Of course, in this day and age, I try to stay away from talking about speakers based on driver size. Some 112's (like the GS112's) have more bottom than some 15 and 410 cabs, and others (like the Eden 112XLT) have less low end than most 110 boxes. And, as I've posted before, the new Schroeder 115L+ is the 'best 112 ever' IMO!

I do like the form factor of a compact 212 box though, and there are some good ones out there at this point!

Why are people choosing a 2X112 stack, instead of a 2X12 cab? Is it ease of transportation?

Two 112s are likely to have more internal airspace than a 212 cabinet. Result is more lows and ummph. At least that's how it works with my Genz Benz NeoX-112Ts. Two smaller cabs are also easier to move around. Modularity allows you to take one if that's all required for the job.

Similar to the 2 x 210 versus 410, it depends on the brand/design. I greatly prefer the GS212 to the 2 x GS112 stack (the GS212 is more even, with tighter lows), but I greatly prefer the UL112 x 2 stack to the 212UL (the UL112 x 2 stack has... you guessed it... more even voicing and tighter low end to my ear than the UL212!). One thing for sure, to your point, most 2 x 12 stacks don't sound identical to the same brand's 212 execution.

Per my gigging needs, I've never been happy on any gig at any volume with a single 112, so the 212 format is actually easier for me to schlep (and less expensive) than the 2 x 112 format, since I would always carry both cabs.

Sheesh! You did an outdoor gig in Vancouver in winter? I'm getting frostbite just thinking about it!
Yeah, we were not prepared to play outside, as previously they told us it was an inside gig. If I had known I would have brought some fingerless gloves or something.

However, this isnt the artic and zero celcius isnt so bad. Canadians have somewhat of a tolerance for the cold. However, my fingers were going purple after about an hour and I had to use a pick most of the gig. That was challenging since I rarely play with a pick and I had to alter my technique on quite a few songs.

I always bring both my 112s. With a dolly two 30LB cabs with a 6LB amp on top are a breeze to move IME IMO.

+1 I opted for a small, 40 pound 4ohm 212. Talk about a dream schlep with a Kart-a-bag Super600 (with stair/curb climber) and the 6 pound head! Two 112's or a nice small 212 with micro head is pretty much the optimal 'bang for the size and weight'.

With the Aguilars, what's the difference between the " DB " cabs, and the " GS " cabs?

Tuning and aesthetics. They both use the same speakers and tweeters. The DB's use stiffer, heavier wood for the cabinets (they are about 5 pounds heavier), and have a different tuning (different port size that happens to be in the rear). As a result, they have the same low end and top end as the GS, but are more even and punchy IMO in the mids (primarily the mid mids, where 'old school punch' lives). They are probably my favorite 112 cab (sound-wise, not schlep-wise!). Aesthetically, they are more 'old school' looking, with tolex covering and cloth grill cover.

I totally agree! after playing years with all kind of cab configurations, the 1x12 is the best of both world. And today, almost everybody in the business makes a decent version..Epifani, Mesa,Bergantino, Aguilar...you name it, you can't go wrong.

My best set is 2 1x12 cabinets stacked on their side for a taller stack behind you and you got the best tone on any club stage..tight and punchy.

Actually, both models of the 2x12 weigh the same ( 70lbs ), while the DB 1x12 weighs 3 lbs more than the GS1x12. All of the versions ( 1x12 and 2x12 ) have pretty much the same specs. The only difference that I can see is that the DB cabs are 3" deeper. Price difference?

The published spec's only talk about low end -3db and upper treble range. The difference in these cabs (GS vs. DB) are in the mids, which would not be reflected in the specs (except for probably a touch higher SPL, which is usually measured in the upper mid area). The DB112's seem more than 3 pounds heavier than the GS112 also, FYI.

The DB212 and especially the DB210 don't get much love on TB (I really like the GS212). However, the DB112, to my ear, is FAR superior to the GS112 (i.e., same low and high end, but nicer, more even, more punchy mid response). Most have a strong preference for either the DB112 or the GS112. They are quite different sounding, and it would be hard to not greatly prefer one to the other, depending on your tone goals.

All selling prices for the Aguilar stuff are listed on the Musician's Friend site. They ain't cheap!
