    Radial J48 vs. Trickfish Minnow

It doesn’t include the J48, but Janek Geizdska’s di/preamp shootout includes both the Minnow set flat and a JDI (as well as a bunch other great sounding boxes). Both the Minnow and the Radial sound great in the shootout , in fact pretty much all of them do. My takeaway from the video is that...

The Sushi Box pedals run the tubes at 300 volts, so it has been done.

Good Chain for Noisy Vintage Bass (single coil pickups)?

No solution to offer, but that’s a badass bass!

    The Great Bass Preamp/DI Comparison

@projectapollo Thanks! I have the Tone Hammer which I also use a lot for silent practice, both with the AGS on and off depending on what I’m doing. I’ve been gassing for an Oracle or Noble, probably from reading threads like this, but the TH / Caveman combo is an intriguing option. Have you...

    The Great Bass Preamp/DI Comparison

@projectapollo you said you were getting great results with the Tone Hammer, can you elaborate on what you feel the P-15, Caveman Compact, and Oracle deliver sound wise that the Tone Hammer doesn’t?

What pedal do you think IMA is teasing here?

I saw him live this past fall with Eric Hutchinson and had the chance to chat with him a bit after. Super guy btw, completely genuine. The Capo was indeed on the small board he was using, along with a Cali76 and the Stomp. Curious to see what this new pedal is, agree that it looks like a...

Duncan Studio BAss vs MXR Bass Compressor (AKA Studio Compressor)

The Wampler Ego is supposedly excellent on bass, give it a shot before buying another pedal.

Just got my first set of TI Flats...what to expect on a J Bass?

About a week ago I took a four year old set off my P and put them on my J (Fender AO 60's). I had kind of a love/hate relationship with them on the P and they have come off and back on that bass quite a few times (as have other flats). I think I just prefer that one with rounds. On the J, the...

The Dark Horse of Tone - My Love Affair with the Aguilar Tone Hammer

The THDI is such a good preamp/DI, I've been using the original version for quite a while now. I think Janek Gwizdala summed it up best in his recent shootout, it's a workhorse and a great-sounding DI. Sure there are some sexier (and pricier) options out there, but the THDI holds its own just...

    One Pedal For Motown/Vintage Tones

@Michael Jewels Reading other's comments it sounds like you might be able to get a decent overdriven sound via your amp, if so, based on what you say you're looking to do, another option would be to spend your $500 on a Pbass. Obviously, you're not going to get something "high-end" or boutique...

    One Pedal For Motown/Vintage Tones

@Michael Jewels I wouldn't sweat the Chromes. Yes, they're slightly brighter than Labellas (esp right out of the pack) but they're still flats, it's not like you've got DR High Beams on there. Give them some time to break in, roll off your tone, and they'll thump just fine.

    One Pedal For Motown/Vintage Tones

@jnewmark Cool, I didn't know they used one in LA, though Wilton Felder played on a lot of the LA stuff. His tone is pretty great too, and distinctive from Jamerson's.

    One Pedal For Motown/Vintage Tones

@DJ Bebop Yeah, I don't know, I'm only going on what Wolfrum claimed on his site, only he and Mike McLean know for sure who did what. For those recommending buying a B-15 emulation pedal, Motown did not use a B-15 in the studio like Stax and other studios of the era. Similar to...

    One Pedal For Motown/Vintage Tones

Not sure about Mike McLean, but Ed Wolfrum designed the DI's used at Motown and was initially involved in the creation of the Acme DI until a falling-out led to a split. This was detailed in a page Wolfrum hosted, but I guess no longer exists. His primary complaint about Acme was that they...
