    got my first Spector

plays great, feels great. the neck is just right (medium thickness, not an ibanez toothpick, not a warwick baseball bat, it just fits). it feels fast and still smells fresh from the factory. the low frets help give some clank and cut with fingerstyle (important for metal), as well as making it...

    got my first Spector

So I got this beauty recently. Used. Spector Rebop 5 DLX, amberburst, Czech made. Completely blows my Charvel out of the water (not that it's a fair comparison). Great metal fingerstyle tone, which is what I was looking for. Took it to my thrash metal band's rehearsal last weekend, awesome...

    Rex Brown and 5 strings

hahaha me too (my Charvel is green tho) :bassist::hyper: Even if Rex used only 4 strings while playing a 5 string I can totally relate to that... the low B makes a hell of a thumb rest if nothing else when playing fingerstyle, but I'd imagine it complicates things when using a pick?

why don't they make them like this anymore

    Heavy metal "buzzy" bass tone

Another thrash bassist with Ellefson's kind of tone is DD Verni from Overkill. Pick, steel strings, hit hard. Henkka Blacksmith has a cool gritty overdrive pick tone that you can hear especially on their latest record, Bloodrunk (audible bass due to good production). Also, can't forget Lemmy...

Video of my Human Base (BaseX.oc5)

Yeah man, the OP has a great tone, but he doesn't have exactly have two heavily distorted, downtuned guitars and a double bass pounding, snare thrashing drummer to cut through... Which is why I'm asking him if the Rebop or the Human Base would be better suited to my purposes :bassist: Either...

Video of my Human Base (BaseX.oc5)

nice bass! What is it exactly about the Human Base that made you let go of the Spector Rebop 5? I'm in a bit of a pinch between buying a used Rebop 5 DLX (for 900 Euros / new price 1250) and a used Human Base BaseX.oc5 (for 1000 Euros / new price 1500) and you're probably the only person in the...

Tell me about gear snobbery/prejudice in your present band

Dude I have a Charvel Fusion V bass - yes, with the awesome pointy headstock - and the guys in my band really dig it. But we're a metal band. And we're pretty young (18-20). And the guitarists also play guitars with pointy headstocks (a Charvel Model 4, and a Vesta), so... it fits. But even our...

    First big amp - advice

Doesn't matter if you're a beginner or intermediate, when it comes to buying gear and you're short on cash, go used! So much more bang for the buck. I got an EBS HD350 for half the price it sells new by going used, 600 Euros instead of 1200! And the bugger is built like a ****en tank so it...

Good (metal) bass for ADGCF tuning? ca. 500-600 Euros?

thanks all for the input. I've decided to go for an Ibanez SRX :)

Good (metal) bass for ADGCF tuning? ca. 500-600 Euros?

Yeah, because everyone else is trying to tune their basses in ADGCF as well, right? Not. I have a specific question with regards to the tuning and if you're unable to answer it then that's fine.

Good (metal) bass for ADGCF tuning? ca. 500-600 Euros?

Hi! I'm looking for a new bass because my good ole Charvel Fusion V simply cannot hack ADGCF. It has a 34" scale length, I have it strung with Elixir Nanowebs 45-130 and although bass is great sounding and a wonderful player, the intonation of the low A string is simply miserable. I can't...
