"bass players are supposed to stand back by their amp and be still while playing"

I don't usually do anything stupid, but I'm usually getting into the music. I've been encouraged to do this because usually my bandmates aren't very animated.

Band being ridiculous or is it me

As someone who usually has fog machines going at the parties... Be careful what brand you get. Most cheaper brands literally smell like burnt tires and marshmellows, and aren't all that easy on the throat.

    the singer problem

I actually didn't think she sounded that bad.... Be careful. As someone who is currently auditioning vocalists, I would pick her in a heartbeat. Seriously, most of the people out there are just god awful. I have no idea where to find someone and it's been months now. Most singers are...

    Guitard intentionally butchered 3rd set!!!

He was with you guys for a year... And you tell him that you're taking away his vocals and solos during the middle of a gig with his replacement moving into the limelight in front of him? Can't blame him for being upset. I may have done the same thing.

    band ad..."must have sufficient income"

Makes perfect sense to me. Weeds out those who are counting on "making it big" at some point. That typically means people who can't afford to maintain their equipment and have extremely misplaced expectations of the band. It doesn't matter how good the band is, if they are recruiting it...

    The girl or the band?

Story time! So last weekend I went to see a friend's band play. It was their first gig and it wasn't exactly prestigious, but hey, exposure is exposure. Long story short, I was blown away. They sounded professional, awesome originals, and had people dancing in a small redneck smoke filled...

Could dating the chick singer tear the band apart?

I am in a similar situation. I met my girlfriend of over a year now at a local gig, we hit it off incredibly well. She plays drums/mandolin/harmony vocals/acoustic set lead and I play in one originals band. Right now I'm in an incredible project that is held back by one thing ... we don't...

Reading through the thread, I just wanted to say that this posting was awesome.

    Dumb Craig's List Ads thread

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed] " we are an established hardcore band looking for a new bassist. we need someone who thinks they are a fairly attractive guy. someone who will leave the ladies wanting (like the rest of us). if you are smart then you'll know like the rest of us, that sex...

You know it's time to leave the band when......

Two specifics that have happened to me: 1. Join a chick fronted synth metal band. Goes great, even through lineup changes. Guitarist has to leave but we have him prerecorded. After being convinced that all prospective guitarists are ******** that are plotting against her god given vision...

    When to call it quits?

And now... an update. Thanks for all the advice that was given here. I have completely left the old band. We had a disasterous practice where we brought in a guest guitarist to "jam" and for the first time I had complete clarity as to how we sounded. To make matters worse, only one song was...

    When to call it quits?

Quick update: So met with the new band. I don't know if I said this before, but the guitarist is actually the guy who formerly played in my old band. That does complicate things a bit, but it was very good to see him and there doesn't seem to be bad blood anymore - he just felt it was time to...

How hard is it to be in a 3 piece band??

A trio is a ton of fun, my favorite setup personally. I do prefer the singer to just do that - sing - and have three musicians, but I'm fine with one of us singing as well. When the singer doesn't have to focus on chord changes they're able to put a lot more into the performance which I enjoy...

    When to call it quits?

Thanks for all the advice guys. Just wanted to update - we hammered down a set practice date so hopefully something will come of it eventually. However, I also contacted an old guitarist I used to play with who is very talented and more my style (just kind of drifted apart) - he was thrilled...

    When to call it quits?

Thanks for the friendly advice and the reminders that 26 isn't too old :). I'll see what happens this week and then decide whether or not to move on. The material is considerably poppier than anything else I've ever played and while I don't mind it, I'm starting to lean towards wanting to play...
