not to be that guy but... it was Laurie Anderson who said "talking about music is like dancing about architecture."

    Dipinto Mach IV project

back from the dead... I swapped out the original tuners for Gotohs. They work fine and Chris only raised one eyebrow when he saw them. The Mach IVs were built in Korea and rumor has it it was the same factory that built Epiphones at that time. Might give you something to go on as far as...

    Is this Kramer anything interesting?

I had one for many years but I never really bonded with it. The sound is somewhat polarizing and not to my taste in the end. If you want it make sure the neck is straight, they will warp over time under string tension and straightening them out is not for the fainthearted. 1200 seems high but...

    Origin Effects BASSRIG

Just got my ‘64 today. It sounds fabulous and has a ton of flexibility. Mine seems to be a little noisy going into an amp but I think I can dial it out. Haven’t tried the DI yet but I should get a chance to sit down and experiment later tonight. Probably going to have to get the Super Vintage...

Slampegg Bee Pre X or Underground Accelerator?

Don’t know the Underground Accelerator but I’m running a SBP on my board these days and low intensity overdrive without a lot of highs is it’s sweet spot.

Building my first pedalboard. The best order of chain.

This would probably be where I would start. Depending on what octave pedal you are using you might want to move it up front, some of them need a clean signal to track correctly. Also, I agree on experimenting on the placement of the compressor.

Testing Compressors: Cali, Smoothie, Empress, Diamond, Keeley, FEA, Darkglass, Doc Lloyd, Lusithand & more

I've been testing a Cali76 cb at the front of my chain and a Becos compiq at the end set up as a limiter. It isn't exactly elegant but it does seem to do the trick. I'm also kicking around the idea of just moving the compressor to the end of the chain on my live rig. It's not like the people...

Sponsored Lowe Custom Guitars Shop Notes

I’ve been using stainless fasteners in aluminum in harsh environments for a long time and I’ve never had an issue. I don’t feel like screws into inserts holding a bass neck would be a particularly high stress situation, but I haven’t done the math so I could be wrong about that and I’d be happy...

A bass that I find very interesting...

looks like an industrial design student's final project in school. very clever and elegant imho but i'm not sure it's solving any problems that actually need to be solved. wish them all the success in the world for trying something different.

Do we play bass to move feet or hearts?

IMHO unless you are a solo player the point is to play together and for everything to work together to create an experience for the listener. I only think about myself when I’m in my basement. Usually I’m listening to the other players and trying to work together to make something we all think...

    Do I need a refret?

looks like my '67 jazz before i got it refretted. i was starting to have playability issues so it seemed like the right thing to do. i spent a long time looking for the right person to do the work and i'm very happy with how it turned out.
