Slampegg Bee Pre X or Underground Accelerator?

Unfortunately, the Underground Accelerator doesn't have sound clips. The Slampegg sounds pretty good in the clips on the Sushi Box site. I'd like something that can do a low-intensity overdrive without a lot of highs. My Terror Bass does this pretty well, but I may be playing in an environment where I have to use in-ears.

What do you recommend?

I have both and I honestly like the UAX a little better because it breaks up smoothly when I want it but it doesn’t break up too early. It’s a little fuller in my opinion. The Slampegg adds some nice warmth and has nice flexibility with EQ but I prefer the tone stack of the UA. I also have a Particle Accelerator X. I like it but the UAX breaks up a little later so it’s not always dirty if you don’t want OD. Mr. Box makes some nice preamps.

Hey @Sushi Box FX , we need UA demos :bassist:

And @Flatwound feel free to stop by the thread and ask in there as well! I prefer my UA for less-altered tone on my small guitar+bass board as a general tube preamp, but if you like the Ampeg Ultra-Lo kind of stuff the SBP is awesome too (which I run on my larger pedalboard towards the end of the chain).

Haven’t tried the Slampegg, mostly because I am burned out on the Ampeg sound right now, but I have a UA, PAX, and a finally.

The UA will get you there for sure, it has a very nice tone stack, and a sweet OD breakup.

The notes have some weight to them and reminds me a little of a tube amp.

I haven't tried the Slampegg, but I have the Particle Accelerator and London Underground, which is what the Underground Accelerator is based off of. To my ears, those are on the bright side, but not overly bright with the treble at 0. Because of the tone stack used in those pedals (F/M/V), you won't be able to dial out the brightness to make it sound dull, but you should be able to in the Slampeg. YMMV.

No experience with the UA. I tried a friends Slampeg and liked it, but ended up getting the Space Heater, as it is just the tube gain section without a tone stack. I like the tones I get from my amp and was just looking for a little tube warmth. I'm not really an overdrive guy, but will overdrive nicely too, if that is what your looking for. I love mine. Seeing that you may be going in ear, the Slampeg might be a better choice, but I don't think you can go wrong with either of the two you are considering. It is definitely a quality pedal.

What is the “HS” Slampegg?

A typo... HW Hand Wired SlampeggX

@Ryan L. Yep...

So Slampegg vs PAx. At the risk of being branded heretical... To my ear the PAx tone stack is not very much like the F2B or Showman Amp it was modeled after. I am very familiar with those and I just don't hear the juice in the PAx. The SlampeggX though... I'm not real familiar with the B15 or B25B... but I can get some really nice tone from it. The HW Space Heater is also kind of a no briainer. Mine is for sale but only as I'll snag an HW Finally when those are available.

Note YMMV... My tube thing is about the electric juicy presence and sparkle with out getting harsh. I have other sources for distortion and rarely tap them.

"Electric juicy presence and sparkle without getting harsh". Perfect description of what many of us are after in a tube pedal. Perfect putting it in a nutshell analysis.
