Slampegg Bee Pre X or Underground Accelerator?

What an awesome warranty program!
Thank you.
Now about that hand wired Slampegg...
Working on it :P I would have gotten a lot farther, but it was my daughter's last weekend of spring break before going back to school so the weekend was a lot less productive than I planned. I was hoping to get a lot of solid work done, and I got almost nothing (pedal-related) done. Seriously, if anyone knows how to stop sleeping completely without adverse effects, let me know.

Can't go wrong with either Sushi-Box depending on the tone your seeking.

For example, here's part of my chain of two pedalboards in the making:

Ampeg B15/B25 tone stack:
Compressor > Broughton Fliptop > Slampegg Pre (mini-tube)
The Slampegg really brings some warm/overhead to the Fliptop (settings are virtually identical).

Alembic F2B / Fender tone stack:
Compressor > Broughton Super Stack > Westinghouse > 2020S Lightning Boy transformer > Underground Accelerator (mini-tube) > 2020S Lightning Boy transformer > Particle Accelerator
The Sushi-Boxes accent the SuperStack. In this case, the Westinghouse brings more warmth/overhead, the Underground Accelerator adds some additional warmth & hair, and the Particle Accelerator adds even more hair. I can use one, two, or all three Sushi-Boxes for some tone stack layering.

Am I interested in the hand-wired versions of the UA / SP? Sure. But, for now, I am satisfied with the mini-tubes!

So being you have an Alembic I’m tryin to add the UA as people have suggested it’s the best thing to get close to the Alembic pre amp tone. The rack pre. I was told the UA would be just about perfect for that clean but tubey sound that break up an cuts or I might have read that wrong but it seems like the UA or PA if I find it even if they aren’t exactly like the Alembics pre. For the price, it seems to really get close enough, I wish there were places I could find an demo it

After hearing the clips of the slampeg
I really dig it. I def like the clips with the gain at 9. I’m just waiting the bottom end retained a that tube growl. So I guess which one is more of a tone shaper? Retains the lows better? An takes mroe to breakup? I would go slampeg but I’ve heard the Ua has less distortion or drive to it more just clean tube drive which is what I want not reallt wanting OD.

If you want a cleaner tone with less breakup/OD, you can replace the stock 12AX7 tube with a 12AT7 (lower gain) or a 12AU7 (even lower gain), and this is true for both the UA and the Slampegg. But you can still get a clean sound out of the Slampegg at lower gain settings (like 9:00 o'clock), but some people like to put in a 12AT7 or 12AU7 to allow them to crank the gain knob higher while still keeping it fairly clean. I have a Slampegg, but have not yet experimented with the lower gain tubes (I intend to). I have no experience with the UA.

Between the PAx and SlampeggX... My PAx is on the block and I have an order in for an HW Slampegg... The PAx is good. The Slampegg is excellence.
Soo... this was back in 2022. Slampegg is long gone and I've settle on the UA. The improved low end over the PaX makes it damned near perfect for me.

End of my chain has a Nobelium and a VenusX is in bound. I'll let those two duke it out for the DI position... I've always been a Gk fan so I suspect VenusX may win... Nobelium is really nice though. Good to have options ;-)

I see this tread is still active, so I may as well post my impressions. Did a comparison between an older mini tube Slampegg and a new 2024 UA, and decided to keep the Slampegg and sell the UA.

To me the EQ was more versatile on the Slampegg, and the controls seemed a bit less touchy to dial in the sound I wanted. I also liked the ability to cut highs a bit to get warmer sound as my "always on" tone, which is a limitation on the traditional Fender tone stack on the UA. I use a Greer Lightspeed as a second gain stage, and it stacks nicely with the Slampegg, adding high end content that sounds different without changing the basic sound.

If you just want a the most transparent OD you can find, or if you get additional tone shaping elsewhere in your signal chain, I could see preferring the UA. It's in the conversation for extremely transparent ODs, along with the Barbershop and others, and does this really well. I just liked what the Slampegg brought to the table for tone shaping, and how it interacted with the rest of my pedalboard. It can still be pretty transparent at noon though, and isn't an over-hyped pedal by any means.

Both are great and slightly different, it just depends on what you are looking for.
