The DB455 is done!! :hyper: But I can only get 300W out of it. The HVPT isn't delivering the needed current with sustaining the voltage. Therefore I might replace it. But the thing is bloody loud as it is. With gain and volume at half, the walls and floor shake incredibly as does my head. A...

Cool! Then perhaps I can pick your brain as to a preamp design. Here's what I was thinking of, with 6911s - what do you think? [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

About 90 pounds. Also I'm going to re-do the preamp. What I have now sucks. I'm going to make a hi-gain cascode preamp with two 6922s. Just the preamp will have a gain of 356.2! And a gain dB of 51. I also had to use a 6550 to drive the driver transformer. And speaking of transformers, here's...

Here are some final photos of the flagship of my fleet, the awesome, amazing and astounding work of art and love, the world's only DB455 bass guitar tube amp. It took me two months to complete this unique work which I measured at 300Watts RMS. Its power is apparent, its weight incredible, its...

DB455 testing continues and the only things left to do are: * Receive and install the front panel * Receive and install the Sowter driver transformer * Receive and install the fans * Add shielding For now, its working pretty well. Before this amp, I never had one which would dim the...

Here is the DB455 making noise in my lab. It needs some tweaks but it's basically working! And it sounds VERY authoritative through my 18" EV cab... I should have it fully tweaked and within a couple weeks, have it able to clear the effects of our local ice storms... :hyper:

DB455 update: My new power transformer should be in today. The last one shorted. So not much has happened in the construction/test department but the hi-voltage power supply will be totally redone. I'll be using an 800V full wave choke input lashup. Should put about 750V on my KT88s...

Point taken with the KT88 proximity. I used the largest chassis I could find. There will be 4 fans inside the cab Re: Power resistor. I am tracing an output oscillation problem now. I'll try bypassing the resistor and dropping the input voltage with a variac and see if that takes care of it...
