The "problem" with that type of gig is that you really have to commit to it. The character has a certain look and you have to keep close to it. Like the guy playing the "Captain" can't decide he want to grow a beard, it is outside the character. Not a bad thing, just requires a commitment...

Wasn't this the point of the wave of "masked" bands we saw in the late 90s/early 00s? That members could come and go but the band played on, and since the public did not know who the members were it was all about the band. Didn't seem to work out real well with identities being undecovered.
