Loose connections on mesa subway cabs

The new plugs work on the old chassis part (which is not a combo jack), but the old plug doesn't work on the new chassis part (which is combo jack). It's the really old plug with a plastic ring to unlock that doesn't work properly. The newer ones with a metal slide to unlock do work on al of the...

Loose connections on mesa subway cabs

I didn't relate it to the 'combo / non-combo' issue. For sure if you peek inside the plugs you see the old ones have way smaller metal connecting surfaces than the newer ones. No idea of this is the same for old and new chassis parts? Or indeed it is 'combo / non-combo' related? I can post a...

What caused it to blow? Only happened to me once with a faulty power generator. A short in you speaker cable or something?

Wow, that's weird. Neutral? Glockenklang is neutral! For me super hard to get a workable tone out of one of those. But yes: the cab is like 75% or something. Bit like the body / neck discussion on a bass. What determines the character the most. The body (= cabinet) seems to determine the...

Thanks man. The time will surely come I'm not able to lift the SVT by myself in my car. Meeting my bandmates at the van or the crew at the venue I always get help but at home I have to load and unload by myself! So I figured I'd better be prepared. 100% workable alternative, do not prefer it to...

    Best tuner pedal? (2025)

Exactly! And indeed it's the first time I notice that while tuning - especially with stiffer/rustier tuners - you already change the pitch slightly, just by the mere effect of touching the neck/headstock. Crazy.

    Best tuner pedal? (2025)

I used a TC Electronic Polytune for years. I really liked the intuitive feel of this 'Strobo mode', but I hated the fact it has to start up like two seconds everytime you plug it in (that is if you don’t have it plugged in permanently): super annoying during a gig. And a couple of times I had an...

Mesa Boogie Big Block 750 problem.

The service guys never heard of this, but said they would look into it if I brought the amp. I - guess what - checked the preamp tubes and the 2 used for the regular operation (so without distortion engaged) were rattling like crazy even if you just lightly touched them. They were labeled ‘Mesa...

Mesa Boogie Big Block 750 problem.

Thanks man, I'll do it today. I hope the Dutch Mesa repair centre (West Amp Geluid) knows about this. I'll refer to you! Earlier I was trying to find an alternative pre-out (so not the balanced one) and did try the effects send and inmediately got a immense smell like something really got hot...

Mesa Boogie Big Block 750 problem.

Hey! Same issue here. I just got one. Totally like it. Played it couple of times for a couple of hours in my rehearsal room with no problems. Did a couple of smaller gigs with a 8 ohm 4x10 cab. But on my first 'bigger gig' with 8x10 4 ohms: volume drop after like half an hour. It came back, but...

    fender jazz tone cap history

I did a comparison on a 60-ies Jazz bass: the original ceramic disc (± 0.02 uF), vs. replacement orange drops (Polypropylene film): 0.022, 0.047, 0.01 uF. In order to try to get more of a live situation you hear mainly the miked cabinets.
