    Chance meetings with celebrities...silly encounters

Mid 70s NYC I'm about 14 and on vacation with my parents. Riding the elevator and in walks Andre the giant and Capt. Lou(rubber bands and all) heading out. I shook Andre's hand(the size of a tennis racket) and asked Lou how many Big Macs could Andre eat. He said 10, I went wow and off they went...

Vocoder/Talk Box type of effect for bass?

I had only one petal around 1980. "Bassballs" is what I think it was called. Pretty cool from what I remember. I'm sure the more active members may have some better insight.

Bought Kay bass for $199 at a goodwill. Is it worth it?

My first bass was a Kay. Learned to love playing. Went to a T40 peavey from there to a p-bass(wish I still had both.) Mine played well and got me hooked. Your call on the return. Too much, yeah. Do you like it? Call it a donation to those less fortunate and play the finish off of it. Just MHO.

That's a first for me. Anyone else seen this?

Remember when Phil Collins played with Led Zeppelin? That was bad. He even admitted he wasn't prepared.

    Albums that grew on you

"the Kings are here." On vinyl of course. Cool mix of pop and rock. Still fresh to me. Some great guitar licks.

    Cliff Williams leaves AC/DC

Since I got the reply and I just have a tablet Google "was Bon Scott AC/DC's driver" and watch the video of Bon talking about it on YouTube. Less than a minute.

    Cliff Williams leaves AC/DC

Must be fairly recent as he has a few "road miles" on him as well and his voice has some maturity to it. The other video I think only has the Young brothers in it as that isn't Phil Rudd or Mark Evans, I believe. I guess the Youngs were the band. But who else can play the bagpipes and sing about...

    Cliff Williams leaves AC/DC

In Rochester NY from about 1977 until 82, 83 I saw at least 25 shows($10.00 or there about) from VH, Genesis, Rush, ZZ Top just to name a few(that I remember ;-) without the drama of today. Bic lighters by the thousands and a sweet smell in the air. No fights, yelling and the likes. Just pizza...

    Cliff Williams leaves AC/DC

You are good(1980.) Double necks and Taurus pedals created so much sound from three guys(saw 2112, Hemispheres & Permanent Waves.) I still think Bon HAD to have written some lyrics on Back in Black. Can you imagine his voice on some of those tracks? IMHO Bon era records(especially HIghway) are...

    Cliff Williams leaves AC/DC

I also think I read that Bon was their driver before becoming their singer.

    Cliff Williams leaves AC/DC

I saw them as an opening act for I believe BOC with I think Thin Lizzy in 1979. Had never heard them before. They kicked the crap out of the other bands and I bought HIghway to Hell and High Voltage and wore the groves out of those records. Our band did low budget covers of them but getting...

First musical recording you ever purchased?

"Amos Moses" by Jerry Reed & "Walk on the Wild Side" by Lou Reed(I liked the bass rif, go figure. Two for $1.00 at the 45 rack at the five and dime. I was eleven. I still have them. Then it was "Troglodyte" by The Jimmy Caster Bunch. I was a strange kid.

Double Bass Which way should I go?

Thanks again fol all the responses. Made in Hungary. As I said I'll take a good look when I go back. Played very well as I said with my rusty playing. Intonation was spot on and the strings were well balanced. Your right about listening, but that is going by the wayside more and more each day...

Double Bass Which way should I go?

First, thanks for the replies I'll try to multi-answer. I really liked the sound in my rusty hands. Fit and finish at first look seemed really nice. Aging toner and the natural flaws in the wood made it look older and well played. Parola vb5 is the maker. Bass seems well built to me. Spruce...
