Cliff Williams leaves AC/DC

Evans now sounds like he is doing a weak Bon Scott impression.
Bon Scott (who was 7 & 9 years older than the two Young brothers) sang for a band that had a hit record before he joined AC/DC... so I'm gonna guess he was not their driver.

Since I got the reply and I just have a tablet Google "was Bon Scott AC/DC's driver" and watch the video of Bon talking about it on YouTube. Less than a minute.

There are some elements of what we know, but some other stuff here is simply jarring. The outfits (except Angus), WHT?

And something about the overall production, seems kinda like Sweet or something. Particularly when it comes to the chorus. Bon, and the classic AC/DC backups were always sly and somewhat menacing. This.....is not.

Just wow.

And I always associated the lyrical content of this with Bon and his whole vibe. Never would have imagined it preceded him. Of course, it takes on a very different feel with Bon. I'd never let Bon of the rest of the band near my daughter, but "these guy" would not be cause for concern. I think that sums up the difference. LOL.

Ya, AC/DC started out being kind of glam, but turned away from it because of the success of the Aussie band Skyhooks. But Dave wanted to be more glam, so they got Bon instead. Bon was a little glam at first, too:


And Dave and Mark Evans aren't related. Wouldn't that be hilarious if Angus hooked back up with them, though? Then you couldn't say that AC/DC didn't have a bunch of original members :D

Well a major part of the decision to get Axl and continue was to keep everyone employed for the duration of the tour. I don't know how many people travel with them, but Brian has said on past tours that it's around 80 or 90. Don't know who all's on the payroll when they're not touring, though. They do take time off after tours.

Did you get that from Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, BB King, Stevie Ray, Clapton, or Bramhall III?

I lived half my life in the States, studying and playing the blues. Oui, je parle francais, mon ami.....and you don't know what the hell you are talking about.

Still, AC/DC (especially with Bon Scott) were great, but it's time to let it go. Angus Young is NOT a blues legend.....a rock legend, BIEN SUR (of course).

A grain of salt:
A friend and I saw Axl Rose (and GNR) booed off the stage in Los Angeles in the mid 90's. Metallica opened for them (?!?!?), and kicked some major ass. I am not even a fan of Metallica, but they were incredible. Then, Axl shows up......high as a kite.....stumbles through 4 songs, then says the crowd sucks and leaves the stadium. GNR was finished 3 months later, and my friend and I haven't even mentioned GNR in the last 20 years.

SAME FRIEND OF MINE sees AC/DC this year with Axl, spent $250, and says it was worth every penny. One of the best concerts he has ever seen. Go figure.

So my guess about being their driver was wrong.
But Bon Scott was in a number of bands long before AC/DC.
Bon Scott was in The Spektors and in The Valentines between 1964-1970.
Then he was in Fraternity 1970-1974.
The Valentines recorded several songs written by George Young of The Easybeats and older brother to Angus and Malcolm Young.
In 1970, after gaining a place on the National Top 30 with their single "Juliette", the Valentines disbanded due to artistic differences after a much publicised drug scandal.
So, I believe Bon Scott got the AC/DC gig because he knew George Young who was the guy responsible for his two younger brothers pursuing a music career.

I figured it'd be around tha number. Then all of the venue employees, etc. It would have hit a lot of people in the wallet, to varying degrees. So I respect that part of the decision, certainly. I'm also one of the few who think Axl sounded like a decent replacement.

I have a hard time with with the "is he just greedy bit" when said about anybody, musician or otherwise, when he is simply going out and providing something someone is willing to pay for. I might think, from a musical or artistic or fan perspective that it's tired or sad, but I don't begrudge someone making a buck, regardless of their bank balance.

That is such an awesome song, regardless of who does it, it always seems to rock!

Bon as a woman? Yeah, glad that shtick was ditched, holy crap!

And yeah, that would be just stupid enough to work, if you ask me, going out with the two Evans guys they canned so many years ago. :bassist:

The guy has great blues chops, I heard him on one of those things where there are 25 people on stage at a hall of fame induction or something, and he killed.
Same deal with ZZ Top, Billie Gibbons should go find a great blues band with a great singer and be their guitarist.
We have all heard ZZ Top and AC/DC rehash their own past great material enough, something new and different would be great from both of them.
And neither of them need the money. ;)

Not quite imo; but a mate of his in Adelaide ? Got him the driving gig when Bon had nothing happening while the early AC/DC were in town. Got him into the right place, right time. Bon dropped some "subtle" hints, he got a go and ripped. Voila!

Speaking of that subject, he's not a bassist but POISON' original guitarist, Matt Smith came out to Hollywood with them in 83. The grind became too much for him and he left in late 85 back home. The band got CC Deville in and proceeded to become rich, famous rock stars a couple years after that. I wonder how Matt felt when that happened. I think I would have flipped out and been bitter as f**k if that happened to me!
