I totally get the decision to step away from AC/DC but I bet he doesn't fully retire and we'll see him continue doing projects.

Cliff Williams leaves AC/DC

I feel like AC/DC has more than run its course........
One original member does not a band make.
True that Cliff Williams and Brian weren't "original" members, but they were in the band for more than 35 years, and played/ recorded during the peak of thier heyday.
Glad I saw them when I did back in the late 80's

It's time for AC/DC to hang it up. There's nothing left to prove. Unless they are going to morph into a full tribute act, which is now one member away from happening.

Big AC/DC fan here. At first, I was repulsed when I heard Axl was taking up vocals, but to be fair he has done a great job, and before he sang his first gig with them, I sort of already thought he could do a great job, maybe even better than Brian covering Bon Scott's material. Either way, at this point Angus Young is AC/DC, and if they continue on without Cliff, then I won't begrudge them (him and Stevie) for carrying on. As far as Cliff goes, yeah, I mean it comes a time when we all have to decided whatever we are doing is worth it or not, and we will miss him. Hope he enjoys his retirement 
Like many Aussies, I will always prefer Midnight Oil to AC/DC. Let's just say I like the music better, especially since Axl Bloody Rose became the lead singer. There are other reasons, which I won't get into, because no one outside Australia cares.
Anyway, I do wish the best to Cliff and the rest of the AC/DC pensioners. Angus would do well to join them and preserve his legacy.

Agreed. I was skeptical at first but I think he's doing a great job.
Which basically describes any band that tours now, with less than 80% of the original members, that was founded prior to the start of this century.
YMMV.
Logistics question here....how many folks "behind the scenes" does AC/DC employ, and would be employed if the band quits totally? Do the Young Bro's have any loyalty to those folk, and thusly affecting their/his decision to keep it rolling? Or is Angus just greedy?
He's not greedy. He's doing his job. That's how he makes a living.
The thing is, by now he's of age to just have fun playing guest in various projects, instead of touring with retirees.
I think it's more than time for him to be recognized as the blues legend he is, up there with the Kings.

Cliff & Brian were / are fairly close I've read. I guess that may be a factor.
I think they are in a 'for fun' band together, and live fairly local to each other. (More local than Holland anyway).

Not to sound like a snob but AC/DC could walk into any Guitar Center and grab any schlub playing bass and they would be qualified for the gig. I love their music and realize it is more about attitude then virtuosity. One of my favorite quotes about them is this:
"Some people say that AC/DC did the same album 12 times. Actually we did it 16. I counted," Angus Young.
For me it's almost like watching an old boxer coming out of retirement and getting his ass handed to him. Or degenerating into Rolling Stones style self parody.
I'm not celebrating or mourning. It was good while it lasted.

I spent the better part of an evening chatting with Cliff at a show a couple of years ago. What a gentleman he is. I was impressed with his demeanor and sensibilities, and it's my guess he's sticking it out as a man of his word. I also wonder if his leaving is a commentary on the way Brian was treated on his way out.
My buddy saw the band last summer at Gillette Stadium.

THIS. I've never met Cliff, but his public statement upon retiring was as rock solid as his bass playing. I think he's a fabulous, fantastically underrated player.
