Cliff Williams leaves AC/DC

They have been through so much (first lead singer dying, second lead singer does deaf, rhythm guitarist/songwriter develops alcoholic dementia, drummer is a mentally unstable drug addict, etc.) that I don't think anyone can blame Cliff for calling it a win. He stayed with them through the lean years (circa 1983-1990) and has been a key part of the band for nearly 40 years.

A great bassist within his idiom!

As long as Angus is there with a good singer, there is always a chance that a new version of AC/DC could kick much ass. It won't be the same, but it could still be pretty great. I thought Axl's been outstanding in Brian's place, especially when you consider he had so little time to prepare and broke his foot, too.

BTW, to clear up a couple things...Malcolm had sobered up in the late 80's so it's not very likely that alcohol caused his dementia after 25 years of sobriety. And Phil Rudd is claiming to be all cleaned up. He's off probation, still can't tour in some countries, the US being one of them, but says he's clean now.

Jimmy--I'm your #1 fan. But even though everybody knows Malcolm went into rehab circa 1988-89, no one has ever said that he never drank since. In fact, he has never granted a single interview before he went to a nursing home in Sydney a few years ago that says he's been sober since the "Blow Up Your Video" era, and no else in the band has, either.

All that happened was he went to rehab in late 1988. He may have been sober for a while, but it's pretty obvious he wasn't a permanently recovering alcoholic. I don't say this to criticize him at all.

He was drinking heavily after rehab, too. Literally for years. It's not pretty, but it's reality.

So there's only two original members left and now one of them is calling it quits after this tour...

Maybe I'm wrong but AC/DC is pretty much done at this point anyway right?

It's more like the angus young band with one ac/dc member. It's been like 80 years, I think retirement or new projects is fine

(and sorry but the vid I saw with Axl singing was pretty bad)
