Changing filter caps on '78 Acoustic 220?

Have my '77 Acoustic 220 in the shop now. Was producing the scratchy sound effect (kind of different than dirty pots) only when playing a low B, coincidently. Turns out it was the caps after talking with the tech and we're replacing.

    Thanks for posting!

    Tom Shanahan (Mildlife)

Absolutely sick band. Shanahan is awesome because he’s playing tastefully over the whole long-form funk dance stuff. His tone is in the pocket too. Especially dig that P with some kinda squishy light wah effect? Keeps that organic P sound but adds a little synth flavor. Just wow.

Do you know if Hipshot HB7 tuners would be the correct fitting replacement for these?

Bag End S15-N: Which Amp To Run This Cabinet

Rad! This is what I'm thinking of running: Bag End S15-N with a Markbass Tube 800w. Chasing the dream tone...

Who Has Put a Jazz Neck on their P-Bass?

Same. I have a MIJ reissue '63 jazz neck, (7.25 radius with thin frets) on a MIM P. Not only did I notice the feel to be more comfortable in general over the P neck, but it has a "softer" tone now as well, which is perhaps due to the vintage specs giving it a bit more girth overall. When I say...

1972 Gibson SB 300 meets 1963 Gibson Atlas IV (nice, real nice)

Black refin a long time ago.. Still has the bridge cover though and electronics are great. This thing just bounces right along and the neck pickup has a beautiful, almost upright bass tone: if not slightly tubby, round and fat low end. I'm going to try to keep that bridge going as long as I can...

1972 Gibson SB 300 meets 1963 Gibson Atlas IV (nice, real nice)

This is fantastic! I just received a '71 SB-300 and yes the bridge sits my Pyramid Golds up on the higher side for action. I don't mind it much and most of these basses have replaced bridges, Badass II's, etc.. Kudos to you for keepin' that original vibe! I love the way mine sounds.

    Getting that soul tone

Honestly, I think you're nailing that modern sound - you have the chops to know what is working here. You're bass has a mellow fatness which a lot of neo players are going for. And while emulating others is productive to capture a particular vibe (esp. recording), it's important for bassists I...

Basses that used to be cheap and have now gone WAY up in price.

I think it's kinda funny that people are just now realizing that the craftsmanship in Japan is ten fold better than it ever was (previously) in America.

    Nick Movshon!

He has a Gibson SB-400 that looks sick in some of the live shows with Lee Fields. They're somewhat rare and have some quirks on the bridge, but a pretty sweet pocket tone. The guy can groove.

Looking for a 'tighter' sound live , especially low end

I've discovered that a raised stage situation is never a good thing for bass players (if that's the case at your venue and sound folks aren't always on top of these sub frequencies). Absorbers would probably be good and fine tuned EQ with compression. I highly recommend The Empress, Keeley...

    Steve Scipio of Cymande

I created an account just to confirm this because it was driving me crazy and I love that vibe! Looks like it was the Gibson EB-3, at least live back in the day... Very under rated bass lines.
