Hey, my bass does that. If you just rest it on your leg it balances perfectly at about a 5 degree angle. My solution was instead of a big horn, to do a big cut.

it's a pretty short headstock with two per side. And my monster maple neck should help compansate for the grain runoff. That said, the runoff is in a direction which is hard to break off anyways. I'm gonna measure up the J-Bass and go for the ease of fabrication. And I'm guessing string tees...

That's close to what I was thinking. Except in mine, the holes would all be connected, probably with a small sound hole. So rather than a series of small routed chambers, it would be a single chamber filled with columns.
