    Advice on handling tax fun

The one thing I've been doing for pay nearly as long as playing bass is being an accountant/CPA. Wide spread of info in this thread, from appallingly bad advice to spot on advice - naturally worth every penny the OP paid for it. If you're having difficulty separating the wheat from the chaff...

    Dingwall Owners Club

Hey Dingwall clubbers. I did something stupid and ended up breaking a long scale Dingwall low B string during installation. I have 4 brand new, perfectly good strings (Nickels) which I imagine one of you who has a long scale 4 string model could make use of. Dingwall doesn't sell single...

Paypal Friends and Family, yes or no from a buyers perspective?

I voted yes. I don't have a lot of history here and only 1x as seller (quite recently). I have done sight unseen transactions >$10K (cars not bass guitars) via wire transfer where I took all risk as buyer, but through the purchase process was able to get a positive vibe from seller. Almost...

What neo cabs are your favorite

I played through a Hartke 410XL I got new in the late 80's for over 20 years. At 90lbs, now that I'm an older guy I decided to give these neo cabs a try and ended up with a pair of Bergantino 210s. Loved the light weight and modular aspect of that rig for transport, but can't say I ever loved...

    SOLD Pedulla MVP5

So I just took some measurements. I think this is 17.5mm but I’m no expert here. Measured from center to center of bridge saddles.

    SOLD Pedulla MVP5

Hi Basspeople. I bought this MVP5 roughly 12 years ago from a prolific Tber rogerbmiller. Like many of us, I drooled over these Pedullas which were the first real 'boutique' basses I ever laid eyes on in those magazine ads they ran back in the day. Shortly thereafter purchasing this MVP5, I...

EMI from cooling fan being picked up by preamp

Following up. I was able to reduce the noise substantially by grounding the DB-680 chassis to the Stereo 800 chassis. It’s not completely eliminated though. With the Stereo 800 opened up, I found an easy way to bridge the thermoswitch to make the cooling fan run. It’s absolutely the fan...

EMI from cooling fan being picked up by preamp

Thanks for replies folks. I did observe the sounds changes when I move the preamp's position in relation to the power amp. i did not adjust the volume controls on the preamp to see how that effects the noise...yet. I don't remember having this problem in the past, but I can't say for certain...

EMI from cooling fan being picked up by preamp

here's a link to info re: fan EMI to sound outputs which I found. Electrical interference from case fan causes speaker hiss - Ars Technica OpenForum

EMI from cooling fan being picked up by preamp

I first noticed this at a rehearsal. Replicated the issue at home, so it’s not a venue/house wiring anomaly. No pedals or anything in the signal chain. Bass—>preamp—>poweramp—>speaker. It’s definitely something coming into the power amp from the inputs, because the noise goes away when I...

EMI from cooling fan being picked up by preamp

Hello TBers. I have an Aguilar DB680 going into an SWR Stereo 800 power amp. Noticed a lot of noise coming from my speakers during a break at a recent rehearsal. I’ve diagnosed the source of the noise as the cooling fan in the SWR Stereo 800, which runs intermittently. It seems that the...

    Cruise ship gig woes

I played a 'booze cruise' on Lake Champlain once (circa late 90's). The generator power on that vessel was a bit dodgy. None of the amplifiers seemed to mind, but our keyboard player's synth dropped out several times

Best low B string in the Biz?

Touché... didn't win the lottery...didn't quit my day job:) Much of my gear I have owned for 20+ years. Only in the last few years I decided to try a couple new things, fueled in no small part by coming to this place, but also rationalized by the fact that I'm gigging again and getting paid...

Best low B string in the Biz?

A bit curmudgeonly, but its cool...have your rant...feel better? I too had never heard of Dingwall before spending time here. I said to myself: "Self...what is this Dingwall thing I keep seeing?" Searched more online, found Dingwall's website, learned the what, how, and why and it made sense...

Best low B string in the Biz?

Another vote for Dingwall. I played 5ers exclusively now for better than 20 years...don't own any 4s. EBMM Sr5 is awesome, got one. Pedulla MVP 5 - also awesome, got one of those too along with a custom built 5er and a neck through 6er (6er was patterned after a Ken Smith). I've gotten great...
