Double Bass Shar Combination Bass Stand/Stool. Anyone used one?

I recently purchased one of these stools for my double bass and it really is great both functionally and design-wise. It truly is portable and easy to assemble and take apart. Kudos to KC Strings for developing this.

    Double Bass GC Screw-Up...What Now?

It's like the old saying, "trust but verify"; suggest you call and speak to the regional manager to get it cleared up. In my experience, GC has been pretty good about customer service screw-ups, they have always made it right.

    Double Bass TC or GK?

I used a Ampeg BA115 for awhile then found a great deal on a TC BG250-112 and I really like it. I believe the 112 is a model that was only sold through Guitar Center. It has plenty of power and tone is great with my upright.

    Double Bass Peterson Tuner

I use one, it works well. The swivel connector on top of the clip that holds the meter and post cracked on mine after about a month of use and Peterson sent me a new clip/swivel assembly. I haven't swapped it out but it's nice to have a spare assembly. I've also used a TuneTech TT-500 clip on...

Double Bass Where can I get a good double bass stool?

Another good option is the following available at Ikea. I have one of these and I cut the legs down a bit to fit my frame a bit better. The advantage of this is it folds up, it's light and you can easily put a padded cover on it (I use a nice gel cover that works great). They make a 29" and a...

I finally got laid! Laid off!

I don't begrudge Remyd any of this comments. I've been in this situation before, while it was a long, long time ago (1980), I followed all the rules, reported every dime of self-employment earnings (as a musician) and looked for work. I was fortunate to have been eligible for a profit-sharing...

Double Bass What bag do you use?

I've used one of the Gollihur bags now for over a year now and am happy with it. I believe it was $149.

Double Bass Thinking about getting a cheap one for my first Upright Bass

Ya gotta love it all, good and bad. That we are all free to respectfully post our opinions is why I love it so . . .

Double Bass Got my first DB! Seeking pickup advice..

The advice on preamps/buffers is really important for a piezo pickup like the one you are getting. Also making sure the fit in the bridge wing is just right as well. It will need to be snug enough that it doesn't move, but not so tight that it effects the piezoelectric properties of the...

Double Bass Budget strings for pizzicato

Another vote for picking up a set of used Spiros on this forum, I did that recently and have been very pleased with the set

Double Bass TC Electronic BG250-208 Anyone tried?

I have a 112 and really like it, have not had any low-end distort problems like some of reported. I was going to get the 208 because of the size and external speaker feature but found the 112 for sale and the price was right. Only complaint is the lack of external speaker connection, but I've...

    Double Bass Mixing hide glue

I usually get hide glue from StewMac, costs $17/lb. Also, for great explanation on the use of hide glue refer to Frank Ford's great descriptions on the frets.com website ([Invalid or Expired Link Removed]). My hide glue recipe is similar to what Frank refers to.

Double Bass Seattle setup-folks, 2014 edition

You can try Kenmore Violins, I believe they rent basses, but I have no idea if they can do setups. I think that Hammond and Bass Church are the two best (and only) options in the Seattle area.

    Jazz bass artists book

FYI this is a great book, I've read it more than once, great descriptions and analysis of specific bass players
