    Monoprice instrument cables

my boss bought monoprice stuff for our live sound setup. looked nice. felt nice. performed nice, for a few weeks. now they're falling apart and we're throwing them away one by one and making them buy us whirlwind stuff. cheap cables are such a daily time drain on professional gigs. if...

    Tried Some New Basses Today

I have noticed that MM's are more particular to having a good setup, especially when I play them in stores. When they are set up well, they play as well as anything out there. I know they are great to play, but sometimes I pick them up in stores and they aren't even enjoyable, while a P or J...

    Double Bass 2-Day Blister Solution

I know this might sound wierd or obsesive, but when i know I'm not playing bass for more than 4-5 days at a time, i burn my fingertips ever so slightly with a lighter, just to keep them tough. Also, I think the fact that I change the roundwound strings on my electric once a week, and also play...

    Double Bass Drone Tone Practice

+1 to this entire thread! I'm a 10 year electric player, 6 months upright player, and using drones has been one of the best pieces of advice I've received on this crazy instrument

Cross country trip- where to buy a new bass?

If you're near San Francisco, Gelb Music in Redwood city (about 30 minutes south) is an amazing shop for bass gear, although $1500 won't fetch much there that you couldn't just find at GC. They have Lull, Lakland, Sadowsky, Roscoe, etc. If you can come up with $2k, the Sadowsky and Mike Lull...

James Jamerson on a maple neck?

The one I saw in the store, Haight Ashbury Music Center in San Francisco, for the same price as the one in the link I posted, was Made in Japan. I'm pretty sure the one in the link, and any "70s p bass" for this price, is MIJ

James Jamerson on a maple neck?

really? i've never seen a pic or video of this maple board bass. he is always shown with this rose board bass: http://www.bassland.net/jamerson.jpg this would be what i would buy if money were no object, but i've played this bass and i'm not sure the difference is worth $750 more for me...

James Jamerson on a maple neck?

I am in a soul band and have been wanting a p bass strung with flats for a while. I was in a shop a few weeks ago and fell in love with this new offering from fender: Invalid Link Removed What is people's experience with flatwounds on maple vs rosewood? I've never had a maple fretboard...

    Fender 70s P-Bass MIJ

I fell in love with this bass at a shop in San Francisco last weekend. Planning on putting it on layaway next week. I've been looking around for p basses for a year, with plans on happily dropping $2k on the right one if I had to, but this thing showed up for $850, with perfect neck and...

    Lowering Noise in DI Tracks

"noise" could mean anything. be more specific? post some samples? :hmm: use a denoise plugin with a "learn" function, find a part where there's only noise, no bass, hit "learn", and then push up the de-noise fader until you just barely take the noise out
