    Which compressor would you suggest?

I use a Keeley 4-knob compressors. I also have the Keeley Bassist, but I prefer the 4-knob. Consider added a BBE Sonic Maximizer. I love the combination of the two. Simple, easy to use, great tone that sounds like you and not the devices.

    Xotic Basses

Thanks for the tip on Miura basses. I'm checking them out now.

    Xotic Basses

Does anyone out there have experience with Xotic Basses? I love their tri logic preamp pedal and have been gassing for one of their basses. If you had to describe the Xotic vs a Fender and/or other manufacturers like Lakland and Sadowski, how would they compare?

Are Ken Smith basses still popular?

I have two Kens, both 5-strings; one fretted and one fretless. Both were made in 1999 and have held up very well. I have too many basses (according to my wife), but I've always thought if I could have just one bass, it would be the fretted Ken Smith. It does have a unique sound, and it doesn't...

    New GK Plex Preamp

Hell with it. Just ordered the plex. I'll plug in. The opportunity to use a GK preamp pedal is too good to pass up because I don't want to carry a power cable around. I'm lazy!

A That a boy for Bass Central..

When I was a teenager, I ordered a Beaver Felton instructional cassette. When it arrived, I opened it and played it before realizing the cassette wasn't the particular lesson I had ordered. I mailed it back and Beaver and his team honored my return even though the cassette had been taken out of...

DI / Preamp noob help please!

I play in a band that uses FOH and IEMs so I'm familiar with your situation. I A/B'd the Tone Hammer; the MXR DI, and Sadowsky DI, and the Tri-Logic by Xotic. Ultimately, I ended up going with the Tri-Logic. The Tri-Logic doesn't have an XLR out so I use the out from my Peterson tuner pedal...

    Compressor pedals

I own both the Keeley Bassist compressor and the 4-knob compressor. Both are very good, but I prefer the 4-knob.

fretless decision: Ken Smith BSR5TN or FBass AC5

I own a Ken Smith fretless 6-string. It's a fantastic bass and sounds similar to my 5-string fretted Ken Smith. It's awesome having two unique instruments with some consistency. It makes switching during gigs a snap. I too gassed for an F Bass fretless. I forced myself to actually play one...

    Best slap bass under $1000

I would recommend a Marcus Miller Fender Jazz Bass. The list for over $1000 but are on eBay for less all the time. I didn't think I would love my MM bass. I bought it used and the set up was awful. I had my guy set it up with DR strings and now it's the best slap bass I've owned. I don't use...

    Fender Jazz 50th found

I own one. It's a great bass. It's very light and well put together. It's my 4th Jazz and seems built for roundwound strings. The tone is vintage Jazz but the 60-cycle hum is kicking when you solo either pickup. I took the bridge cover off but kept the front pickup cover on, mostly for looks...

EWS Tri Logic 2 VS Xotic Bass RC Booster

I own an EWS tri-logic pedal. I place mine after my compressor (Keeley 4-knob) but before my BBE Sonic Stomp and Analogman Chorus. I like the pedal but the treble buzzes a lot. Fortunately I don't use a lot of treble. If I did I would probably use a different preamp.
