Medium scale 32" strings are the desired length.. The gauge is up to you, but a heavier string is usually a better choice.

It's been a while. I finally got the Brice short scale fretless bass. It is very playable, and has the Jaco buzz. No fret lines on the finger board, but dots along the high side of the neck. $325 at Rondo Music.

I stand corrected- Rondo is a very reliable dealer. When I pointed out this discrepancy, Kurt immediately corrected it. I have since had very good dealings with Rondo music and recommend them highly!

Update: the latest shipment of Brice short and regular scale basses have arrived at Rondo music. I just got a short scale 5-string fretless for only $325, and it's a great bass for the money! Link Removed

Too bad the knuckleheads at Zoom don't make effects transferable. There are FX on the B3 I'd like to download to the M60B and vice versa, but not possible. The new B1on looks great, but there will still be that problem with accessing favorite FX. I'm going to get one as soon as it is released...

I've solved the Jaco problem by getting an ESP LTD fretless 5-string. Plus I've added an EBS Valve Drive to get a tubular sound.

The info I have from EBS says that the Svetlana 12AX7/ECC83 is the preferred tube. Is this the latest and best information? Or is there a newer better choice?
