    Playing upright style

Has anyone seen someone play an electric bass in the upright position? Is there possibly a stand made that allows this playing position? How about this guy?

    Fender Japan is gone :(

Ikebe Japan still lists them for sale, though I imagine they won't last long...

    Jack Bruce RIP

Sunshine of Your Love started it all for me, wanting to play the bass... The loudest show I ever heard was Jack Bruce (with Larry Coryell and Mitch Mitchell). They were double billed with the equally loud Johnny Winter Band. A GREAT night of music! RIP to the both of them.

Is Jaco Pastorius for us what Jimi Hendrix is to guitar players?

I’ve been following this thread for years. Very entertaining. There were two moments in my life where something came on the radio and I just thought "Whoa! What's that?" The first was Jimi Hendrix doing “All Along the Watchtower”. The second was Joni Mitchell on the radio...

Doubt about Fender Jazz Bass Made in Japan

I have a MIJ Jazz Bass Special '88 with an identical neck w/ stripe and no writing on the heel. It doesn't mean it IS a Japanese model but it doesn't count it out, either.

Phil Lesh Appreciation Society: Enter the Philzone...

I always thought Jack was an active participant in creating his bass. I remember a show w/Airplane at Fillmore West in 1970 where, as they were setting up, Casady was clearly bothered by something sound-wise. He set his Starfire down on the stage, opened it up an began pulling out wires and...

    Another show at Knott's

Nice to know they are still putting on these shows. The first live music I can remember hearing as a kid was there: the Sons of the Pioneers... a looong time ago!

Fender & Guitar Center - You Could Do So Much Better

As some have already pointed out, sometimes you can use it to your advantage. I was in need of replacements after mine were ripped off and I found one at GC. I was looking for some sort of fretless Precision with preferably a Jazz neck type bass and came across a fretless Jazz Bass Special (this...

    can someone help identify this?

A quick online search suggests it may be from a Crafted/Made in Japan, Fender JB62 reissue Bass.

    bass shopping in Tokyo

It's been a few years since I was there but the Ochanomizu area has many guitar shops and some are high-end/ interesting... I was able to check out an Atlansia, some interesting Tune basses. Lots of Atelier Z's and all the non-export Fenders (Japan).

    Info on Fender Custom PJ

There are occasional examples of MIJ basses with that “Fender” logo. Sometimes they do read “PJ”. Sometimes they have that jack, though I’ve never seen one with ALL of those elements together. You never know. A much closer look could be warranted. If it’s real...

Bass line in an old favorite song

I never gave that song much thought until I saw the Friends of Distinction live, back in '69 at Disneyland (of all places)! Liked it ever since. And they would repeat it every half hour or so for the next crowd...
