Storyville at the mercury lounge NYC ,, what a sound clear and awesome,, was right upfront, and had some beers withe the band after,, was talking bass talk with tommy Shannon for a half hour,, great guys!

Pink Floyd - Momentary Lapse Of Reason, all three nights in Toronto, Quad sound and opening with Echos. I was never quite the same after that

Rush at Red Rocks for their 30th Anniversary Tour - just because it was Rush and it was Red Rocks - unbelievable!
DLR's Eat'em and Smile tour - 10th row center watching Billy Sheehan and Steve Vai light it up was killer. And, they looked liked they were having a blast.

ELO -- my first concert in '78. I got so wasted I ended up puking in/on the Philly Spectrum (no big deal...that place was a bomb crater) while the warm-up band played. Don't remember squat from the show except their spaceship thing and ELO playing Turn To Stone. Swore I'd never again get drunk (or otherwise impaired) before a show. I've kept that promise.
Robert Cray -- Kadena Air Base in 2002/3. Dragged my hard core rock n roll friends to see him. He was great. My friends no longer scoffed at the blues. I came away really impressed and appreciative that a well-established musician would come half way around the world to play for us GIs for free.
Rush -- 2008 Bristow VA. Took my daughter who was 12 at the time. Great seats. Great crowd. Rush was awesome. My girl didn't sit for the entire show. Unfortunately the acoustics were horrible at the venue. She and I may drive from Omaha down to KC to see them in August (at her suggestion).

Funny, I've seen Hawkwind a whole bunch of times (including once with 2 different lineups of Gong supporting) but, for some mysterious reason, my memory is all blurry...
Roland Kirk (with Elvin Jones on drums) at Monmouth Mall in Eatontown, NJ somewhere around 1967. He was playing on a tiny stage in a walkway in an open shopping mall (later enclosed). Shopppers were walking by, like it was nothing.
Charles Mingus at the Village Gate in Manhattan, early '70s. It was his gig with a small combo, and the drummer was playing way loud. He kept looking at the guy, but the dude didn't take the hint.
Two gigs that kinda wised me up about the music biz. I'm glad I decided to get a day gig. I didn't want my life to go that way.

Faith No More, summer '90(?) Saw them open for the Chili Peppers about 9 months prior and blew RHCP out of the water. Left with my mind completely blown.
Tool, summer '07. They played for about 3 hours. Sounded freaking phenomenal. Laser and stage show were awesome! The 1/4 oz of shrooms I ate beforehand may have aided this.
Type O Negative, fall '99(?) Saw them at a club called The Abyss. Had a couple of albums, but wasn't really familiar with them. Went on a whim. Was sitting in the car while my wife, then girlfriend, was in a seafood store buying scallops. Heard an ad for them on the radio. Ad referred to them as "Satan's Beatles", so I had to go. They rocked it! That night we got home and sat in my Bronco and listened to their entire album October Rust cranked.
Machine Head, summer '08, Mayhem Festival. They were headlining the side stage, which was set up in the parking lot. The amphitheater virtually emptied into side stage area when their showtime came. Mastodon was on the main stage in the middle of their set, playing to about 19,000 empty seats. Machine Head walked out on stage and looked almost shocked to see the massive crowd in front of their stage. Everyone really digged them, and they seemed to enjoy it even more than we did. Completely badass!

Slipknot on Mayhem last summer. They were my first favorite metal band and I saw their return to America with Slayer opening for them. It was unreal. I'm also looking forward to Summer Slaughter: Periphery, Animals as Leaders, and Dillinger Escape Plan.

At 19, I was in a local band that opened for Iron Butterfly- the metamorphosis tour. It was one of the most incredible experiences of my life (to that point). OUTSTANDING ALBUM!!
Next would be a concert at the old Crosley Field in Cincinnati back about 1971-2 (Honestly don't remember the year). It featured Ten Years After, Mountain, and a host of others that, frankly, I can't remember to this day - things sort of "got away from me".........
Honestly, I could name dozens - Steppenwolf (I HAD to see them, I worked for them, so the 60 or so shows might be considered) Humble Pie, Deep Purple, Zep, The Who, and the hundreds that I have see since then.
I don't really prefer "newer" shows, however. Too "slick" for me. I like bands that are amp heavy, decent light show and the occasional bad note. It's real.
