I have a question of scale. Is it possible to increase the scale of a bass by moving the bridge. Or must I replace the 34" neck with a 35". I like the thought of slanting the bridge like the Dingwall. I know those necks and frets are fanned and that might have everything to do with the...

Who, in your opinion, made bassists "cool"?

JJ Burnell from the Stranglers. My uncle already played bass, so it was already pretty cool to me. His tone and driving lines were an eye opener. In the hay day of punk, he was pretty darned cool and he could play.

Anyone else tune their basses as I do?

Do you do any really sweat bends and almost Tony Iommi flourishes. Cuz I see that "slackness" would be great for that.

Drop A standard or Drop F# standard. Depending on gauge.

Time to phone an electrician. All that sh*t can't be a coincidence. I live near the bottom of St. Laurent and we have mixed wiring. Half copper, half aluminum. It's a nightmare.

Going to pick up a Gitano bass. Solid mahogany, 2 active pick ups, in great shape. Have never had an active pick up bass and this is being sold at a price that I can't say no to. That'll be the 6th bass in the music room. I know it's not super high end or even common. But it plays nice and...

I think most of us want to sound like Bass. Just very angry Bass. With Turrets.

I understand the less is more and would love to just plug into an amp and crank it. But alas, the saturation I enjoy would have the neighbours in a lynching mood. Thus I play a lower, but saturated levels and feel the need to constantly tweak. I think the next time I say "perfect!" I'm...

Thanks. I guess my ears are to blame. And the lack of other instruments is another constant variable. Good to hear I'm not alone anyways. Except when I play. Sent from LowF's iPhone.

This is going to seem like a noob rant. But I was curious how many of us have the problem of the floating tone. My equipment never leaves my study, as I've quit playing with people and my back can't handle moving the cab any more. Almost on a daily basis, I'm finding I need to tweak my...

Who left their bass mark on you

My uncle played bass and we'd often be in his room listening to records. He'd play along with whatever was on the turn table. He introduced me to the usual legends, but one day he put on the stranglers. JJ Burnel. That sealed it.
