The truth is that, for all the new graphics, strings, pick-ups, wood finishes, fret board finishes that have been developed over the years, these changes have only really been tweaks to the original P-Bass and J-Bass.

It is amazing how "right" Leo got it back in the 50's.

Probably a boring answer, but I'd have to say my main bass, a 1971 lefty fender precision natural wood with an ivory nut. Not only because its worth more than all my backups combined, but its also a better bass. At one point it spent 6 years in a storage bin in an attic with no climate control in Massachusetts where the weather ranges from frozen to nasty humid. When I finally pulled it back out it was still in tune.

As a lefty, I stick with my G&L's and Spectors. I actually am selling a few of my basses locally right now and will have only my G&L L2000 USA and will be happy

I'd keep the Ibanez EX-404. It's the least reliable of my basses, but it's the most sentimental since it was a gift from my brother.

The other two... I bought them, thus replaceable.

My MIM P-Bass. It not only has very significant sentimental value (my shnuggums gimme it) but it has always felt like butter to me and it growls like my Great Dane once I dropped in the Seymours 1/4 lb.-ers!!!!

I'd sure miss the ones I had to sell, but there's no question as to which one I'd keep - my USA Spector NS-4. Best bass I've ever owned.

As predicted, it's a Fender rout. Cue the haters to tell us how we're all saps for falling for clever marketing by an evil conglomerate. Meanwhile, I try every couple years to shake using a Fender, and nothing else does the job for me as well. That's why I use them...no other reason. Sure, their pickup quality is all over the place and not all of them are perfect, but they didn't get to be number one by sucking.
