Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

So I was kind of interested in the Source Audio bass OFD. I'm not usually into modeled distortion sounds, but Source Audio is doing some really good stuff.

Then I watched this video with Juan Alderete

Maybe it's just because he's got the gain maxed, but when he starts flipping through the various models they all sound like the same base tone with slight EQ tweaks. The biggest offender is the El Raton setting - to me it sounds nothing like a real Rat or Rat variant.

I am disappoint.

At least I didn't buy one.

I tried out some Source Audio stuff.. I think what theyve got going on can be neat, but its all digital and I just find it doesnt jive with me..
I kinda thought the same thing on the OFD.

more work in progress stereo board shots..

ric-o-sound jack -> stereo mute box (korg in tuner out)
bridge pickup -> DS-1 -> amp channel 1
neck pickup -> CS-2 -> bluebeard -> hotcake -> amp channel 2

the ADAM is amazing, no more hums.

this is the plan (i've got a bit more to spend!):

need to buy the PT-2 soon. underneath the board will be the ADAM, a DOD 260 DI and a custom made EQ with dry/wet out similar to Ron's DI for sending a clean bassy signal to the PA.

oh how things change. stereo sound is unbelievably, crushingly heavy when two dirts are combined in a certain way. so much so that i don't require stacking dirts.

here's the new plan. debating whether to keep the mini mu on as i currently only use it on one riff.

So are there any prog shoegaze bands? Like Yes meets MBV.
Or is that just post-rock?

All I can think of is Lantlos, Alcest and so on. The more black metaly shoegaze. But I already know about most of those. And not proggy enough.

Maybe like a jazz rhythm section with a shoegaze guitarist? haha

Well I'd still use my Vulcan, that thing IS my sound...and then that through my EVM 215 if I did get it. Not that the Dunwich preamp doesn't sound good. But that frees up board space for more pedals, plus I'm pretty sure that Dunwich is based off an SVT...and that head is probably considerably lighter and smaller than the 800 slave. And frees up my PA200 for home use with my repurposed wood 115

Going to pick up a Gitano bass. Solid mahogany, 2 active pick ups, in great shape. Have never had an active pick up bass and this is being sold at a price that I can't say no to. That'll be the 6th bass in the music room. I know it's not super high end or even common. But it plays nice and the wife says it oohs cool. Pics when I get it home.

What's the way you set the dirts to get the heavy without stacking?

I was gonna throw a fuzzy dirt on the bassic side and overdrive to the dually side.

No idea what amps I'll use on this endeavor yet.

A friends band was him and a boy friend and girlfriend who broke up leaving him ready to play again. He lives a few minutes from my house vs the couple who were 50 minutes away and have no car.

We'll see what comes of that.

at the moment i'm running the bluebeard total mudbutt settings and the DS-1 (i am hoping to replace it with a Cthulhu, lord dunwich permitting) with nearly max tone for the highs. neck pickup and treble pickup respectively. i am running it through the same two channel amp currently, however when sent to two different amps/cabs it sounds even better.

to my ears it sounds like my lows are heavy and thick while my high notes are articulate and sharp, just the way i like it

side note: my custom stereo preamp i have in the works (GT200 w/ mid shift + OR120) will further be able to 'segregate' the two tones using the FAC/mid shifts.

So my best friends sister just contacted me and wanted to know some stuff about him. They had a little bit if a fallout and hadn't spoke to each other in a long time, just like I moved and I hadn't spoke with him. She was asking about all the inside jokes we had together. Man, losing your best fvcking friend is really hard. It just feels so surreal. He passed away about 4 weeks before he was going to travel to and stay at my house for the week. I miss him tremendously. PSA, please do your friends a favor, don't take drugs that have the ability to instantly kill you. His addiction was something that only his parents and junkie friends knew about. I'm not sure if I could have helped him, but I damn sure would have tried.

Somebody post some gear now, please.

Bumski man. Drugs are bad mkay. Help is there if you want it. I fell back into some old habits a few months ago. That's when I decided I was going to move back home. This song partially influenced that decision.

Anyway. I was looking around in the classifieds... haha. Pretty nice limited reissue Spector and a cool Univox lawsuit P in there!! Both pretty cheap.

Who was it that likes to repair pedals?
I've got a trashed RAT(90s?) I'll be happy to get rid of for shipping cost. The case is missing like all its screws and the nuts that hold the 1/4 sockets to the case.
Might be a fast repair if you've got the stuff on hand. Should work otherwise.
I've got too many projects right now, some stuff has to go.
