Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Playing with these dudes next week. My guitar player said, sounds like Disturbed and Candlemass had a baby. I feel that's accurate. I am kinda digging it more than any Disturbed I ever had the (dis)pleasure of hearing. And, the band seems like a bunch of cool dudes.

Ever since last week, I've became less and less concerned with who we play with. Doing the mixed sub genre shows sometimes means playing to 10 people, but it was those three that came up to me to tell me how awesome we were, that made my night. I hope we rock some socks next week too. I mean sure, I snoop and see what they sound like, but that's only for me.

Ever since last week, I've became less and less concerned with who we play with. Doing the mixed sub genre shows sometimes means playing to 10 people, but it was those three that came up to me to tell me how awesome we were, that made my night. I want to get another ODB-3 and mod it just like the one I had that I should of never sold. It rocked for both bass and guitar.
Don't get me wrong fellas I see the appeal/appreciate the use of the D-tuner. I personally have no need for one at this point in my hack playing career.
I'm fixin to download EZ-drummer 2 this weekend and figure out how to record. Make sure the Line6 thing I have sounds decent. Fix all the little problems that I'm sure I will have.
And get to headphone practicing with drum beats. Quit looking at the classifieds. And sell some sh*t.
Sounds easy enough
As long as I practice and don't spend anymore money after EZdrummer 2 I should be good for a long time.

I dig the ODB-3. Tried modding mine and it developed a weird issue that I still need to track down and fix. So I tossed it in a drawer and moved on to other dirt options. Found it while packing last week and now that I have a workbench and some test equipment I can figure out what's wrong with it and get it back into working order.
I did a keeley mod to mine when I rehoused it. Never sounded as good to me after that. The hissy buzz saw thing was part of what made it to me.
Yeah, looking back on it I'm not sure that it really needed to be modded. That pedal into a 1000W amp and 2x15s was shaging brutal. I remember doing a sound check with that rig and rattling all of the darts out of the dart board on the other side of the room.
Maybe I'll try running a stereo rig. Boss ODB-3 into the Dunwich preamp, DOD Death Metal into my Tech 21 British, each into a channel of my Crest Pro-Lite 2.0 and each side into a Dually. That should be fun for some over the top dirt.
Yeah. Not really something I'd use, either. But that's mostly because I don't really use drop tunings.
I'm after band pracitce (it was pretty cool) and on my third beer (it's 9 PM in my part of Europe), I'm seriously considering a paint job on my Joyo UD. Right now. I still got 2 beers left.
Yeah, my guitarist did just that. Now he's doing a paintjob on a UD he's giving as a brithday present to his friend. I was with him when he was buying the paints today and now I guess I want to repaint mine too. As long as I got beer

Someone did a copper refinish and somehow the graphic was semi visible. It's in the part1 Joyo thread, if you want to hunt for it. But, damn does it look cool.
So I was kind of interested in the Source Audio bass OFD. I'm not usually into modeled distortion sounds, but Source Audio is doing some really good stuff.
Then I watched this video with Juan Alderete
Maybe it's just because he's got the gain maxed, but when he starts flipping through the various models they all sound like the same base tone with slight EQ tweaks. The biggest offender is the El Raton setting - to me it sounds nothing like a real Rat or Rat variant.
I am disappoint.
At least I didn't buy one.

i feel the exact same way. totally on point with my exact thoughts. I thought the first tone he had when he first tuned it on and saved the preset sounded best.
Play that loud enough and the paint will come right off that pedal.

EZDrummer 2 is the best. I need to resist adding more drum kits to it... but damn those drums sound good!

I need to repaint mine... it just looks so silly xD I saw one where someone had just painted over all the red parts with black nail polish and left the labels for the controls. Looked pretty good.
As far as that SA bass OFD... meh. I like the original bass and guitar distortion pedals they made though, some really neat unique sounds there. They were cool because they weren't trying to emulate anything.
I've put down the bass lately, and have been playing guitar through my bass 4X10. I love the rich, loose, 'pillowy' low-end I get.
We've got a new band going, and have unleashed some primitive, instrumental, stone-age stoner/drone/doom. I think it would fit right in around here:

I'm on the lookout for another used (cheap) 4X10. Which ones will be able to withstand fuzzed-out, low B torture? Will the budget ones (backline, workingmans, hartke, Acoustic, etc) survive??
