Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Got my new Megalith clone yesterday evening. Tried it for a couple of minutes through my rig, it sounds absolutely killer! It doesn't seem very versatile though. It does only that one sound, but it does it extremely well and with room for tailoring it to your taste.
The builder used different transistors than the original, but also provided me with the original to swap into a socket. Going to try them when I have time.
This is probably a keeper.

I also got a Mastotron clone. Can't get a good sound out of it; I'll need to check the parts used and if the build is done according to the schematics I found. Also I want to check its tone against what I've heard in demos. Still, it's likely going to be traded.

I've put down the bass lately, and have been playing guitar through my bass 4X10. I love the rich, loose, 'pillowy' low-end I get.

We've got a new band going, and have unleashed some primitive, instrumental, stone-age stoner/drone/doom. I think it would fit right in around here:

I'm on the lookout for another used (cheap) 4X10. Which ones will be able to withstand fuzzed-out, low B torture? Will the budget ones (backline, workingmans, hartke, Acoustic, etc) survive??

Would sound better with bass. Unless of course there is bass on that recording and it's just buried. Not trying to be discouraging.

You know I'm starting to think I should give Ric o sound a try...bridge pup through Vulcan and neck through Dunwich + Booster.

Does your bass have stereo?

Depends on my mood. I haven't run dual heads in a while due to the 2000s being here on the West Coast and the 1200s being in Connecticut at school. It's nice running two heads though because I can EQ each pup differently, namely make the bridge pup sound less like weak ass. The Dagstar (and the P-bass, for that matter) never needs the bass knob on my Sunns above 2, but the jazz bridge pup always just sounds so meak, I need to experiment again soon with two heads, running one head treb/10, bass/2, contour/0 for Dag, 10 for P, and then spend time tweaking the other with the bridge pup to get a fatter tone. Or say to hell with it and just run the bridge pup through my fuzzface at all times.

That's been my experience with Jazz Bass bridge pickups. I think a big part of it, for me at least, is that they're just too close to the bridge.

Hey all. Nothing new to report.
Got 2 basses and an amp listed on the local CL, aiming to downsize to one bass, one combo. Think I've given up on playing in any group other than the intermittent basement band. Heart's just not in it. So, I'll keep the bare minimum to be able to make low end noises, and bash out cowboy chords on the guitar, annoying my dog and cats.

Went to a dinner at a friends neighbors and they made awesome curried veggie pizza. Then we smoked their hookah on the back porch and these hobos showed up in the alley and put on an impromptu fireworks show for some reason. The hosts hated them for freaking out their dogs, but I liked the free upclose Unexpected artillery barrage.

Man I can stop listening to Bask. Apparently it is possible to blend Stoner and Americana. Are there any other bands doing that? Makes me want to hear the Jason Isbell years DBT albums covered by bands in this genre.

Thanks, yeah I spin them from time to time. I like the rock and old school country side of Americana the most. Bask just nails it for me. All Them Witches and King Buffalo got some of that mojo mixed in their stuff too.

That is a respectable rig for Romania. Should be plenty to start. I'm sure like the rest of us when a guitarist joins you'll have to think about adding cabinets.
I have family that lived there a few years and they always talked about how difficult transportation was. Is it still so?
