    Essential Motown songs?

You should check out the book "Motown Bass Classics". It has 21 of the most popular motown hits with the bass transcribed note for note in standard notation and tab. I play in a motown band and we play most of these songs in our show.... and it's only $14 on Amazon...

Jamerson "I Can't Get Next To You"

I know this thread is really old, but I just made a transcription for it. I needed to have this piece down for a gig, but I couldn't find the transcription for it anywhere, so I just made my own. Enjoy!

If I ever have to play ________ again I'm going to _________

"Don't Stop Believing" is the bane of my joy in cover bands. I have always hated it and probably always will. The problem is that crowds go apepoopie over it, when its late and they are drunk.

    RH technique; complete Newbe question...

You could go either way. I usually lead with my middle finger, but there are plenty out there that lead with their index. I would say that upright players might be used to lead with their index because you can get more skin touching the string that way. Try both and see what tone and feel you...

Save money, don't change B string every time

I wouldn't want to create that inconsistency in tone between my strings. If anything, I feel the top four strings are able to keep a newer/brighter sound for longer than my B string can. I usually change all my strings when I feel the B string is loosing its life.

Back When Marcus Miller Wanted to be a Pop Star!

HAHAHAHA!!! I had never heard his older stuff. This is pretty funny stuff right here. I've listened to him since M2 and actually like his stuff, but this song about his best friend's girlfriend is way over the top. I can't say I enjoy much (if any) of the pop music from the 80's. I value the...

Poll to choose my next bass!

Look for a used Stingray, it may fit your budget and be what you're looking for. Why limit yourself to the "new" market?

What do you do on your Fender?

I probably won't make original music like this for a while. It is too time consuming and I am focusing on studying right now. Good to hear you liked them!

    Copper Foil Tape Shielding Question

I shielded every cavity and then used shielded cable to make a connection between them and ground by soldering them to the ground screw in the wood. I works great. I shielded the electronics (including neck pickup), bridge pickup, and battery cavities. I used a copper tape I bought on amazon...

    Bass players with guitars?

Playing guitar has helped me with being able to visualize chord shapes easier. It really helps when writing basslines or playing jazz, when you have the shape of the chord in your head.

playing jazz with a pick ?

Steve Swallow is an excellent example of Jazz being played with a pick. Check out his album "Real Book". My bass teacher in college was the one who showed me his music.
