I just ordered a set (or rather four individual strings because I need the extended E) directly from the Thomastik website. The price was almost 347 EUR which is about 405 dollars it seems. Free shipping within Europe.
I have had one of those cases now for just under three years. Just a few weeks ago the zipper broke. I will try to have it fixed somewhere but I probably won't buy the bam case again if I have to replace it. It also has gotten quite worn a few places, especially under the scroll which I think...
Love my Reid Hudson bow! I bought it from a previous (and my most recent) teacher last year. He got it new in the mid '90s from Tom Martin who at the time was the exclusive dealer of Hudson bows in the UK and Ireland (maybe Europe?). He couldn't find the papers to know for sure but it might have...
I have been waiting for a set of Basso since around mid August. When I e-mailed them a month or two ago Jan-Ole apologized for the long waiting time, he said that they had problems with producing strings during covid and they were not quite back to full speed yet. He told me to remind him about...
And a big audience too!
Interesting, I had never heard of that before. Was is simply so they were heard easily? On the other end of the spectrum, I have read that Dragonetti was sometimes the only bass player in an orchestra.
I am doing 12 - 2-2 - 24. As I said 12 - 14 - 24 is probably the most clean sounding but at a very fast tempo the other fingering seems like a good compromise. Works for me anyway.
Playing this overture next week. My first thought was to do as David suggests; 12 - 14 - 24. That is what seems logical to me, that is what I would like to do - but trying it at speed I actually think that 12 - 2-2 - 24 works better for me.
Definitely it's necessary to try a bow out for yourself, I am just curious. I play french bow. Andreas told me that he has those two french bows listed on his website in stock. Usually I would probably go for the lighter of the two but you never now. So if I had the opportunity I would try them...
Definitely. I actually asked Grütter if there are any other bow makers/dealers in the area. If I could check out a wider selection it would be worth considering for sure.
I am not in Copenhagen though - of course, Denmark isn't that big ;-)
Scapinello is a lot closer but also has a much longer...
I sent him an e-mail and he was quick to respond. He has some bows in stock but doesn't want to ship them, so unfortunately I don't have a way of trying them out (for now at least).
