    Upgrades to Carvin LB76

I have a twenty year old Carvin LB76 that has the Carvin stacked jazz pickups, and the two band preamp. Overall I like the playability of the instrument, but always felt the electronics lacked a little. Well, the preamp seems to have failed. So, I am looking into options. First, not sure if I...

What is the best era of bass guitars?

I would have to go with now. Looking at the quality available in some entry level basses all the way through high end stuff no period really compares. There are a variety of excellent basses from various periods, but not the numbers of quality basses available today.

    Fretless folks: Why a jazz?

After having played various fretless Jazz basses, and about a month ago having the change to pay a fretless Precision I think the Precisionis better for fretless- at least to my ears. I still like the jazz neck a little better though.

SOLD Cliff Bordwell Fretless 6 F/S

Man, I wish I had cash. I love that bass. I think it is one of the two or three looking basses ever. It also sounds fabulous. Whomever ends up with it will be really lucky.

You can add 5 basses to your collection, you choose.......?

Well, considering the pricing limitation, and I am in about the same boat cost-wise as you, here goes: Musicman Stingray 5- Black and maple USA Peavey Cirrus 5 with walnut or bubinga body P-Bass preferably with maple board Bordwell SCB fretless 5 or 6 just like the parallel chamber one on...

What was the WORST 80's hair band?

I agree. I never truly considered TNT a hair metal band. Harnell is a great singer. Le Tekro is one of the best rock/metal guitarists there is. TNT is back, and they sound great.

    left hand ache

First thing is to stop playing everything for a few days. I would recommend ice several times a day too. I think that sounds like you are playing too hard. It could be your technique, but your strings could be too high as well. In general, I am believer in having my strings as low as I can...

The Rush Pendulum Has Swung Too Far

As a long time Rush fan, I do not like Clockwork Angels either. I really tried too. The songs frankly are a lot of rehash in my opinion, and not good rehashing at that. The songs seem really uninspired. I think the production at best is mediocre, and at worst kind of sucks. Geddy's voice...

    The Trace Elliot V-type Club!!

Tom, after seeing the picture of this rack of preamp goodness I just want to say that I would love to sit in your gear room for a few hours to just try stuff out. WOW!

What type do you play p, j or pj

I have two Carvin 6 stringers with J pickups. I have a Vantage/Matsumoto 4 stringer with 2 p pickups I have a Steinberger XL-2 - what the hell am I talking about here. Well, the EMG pickups are internally arranged like a p bass pickup. I do also have a Musicman Sub 5 that I like a bunch...
