Just go to a shop and try a few on. From a protection standpoint they are all more or less equal. Pick whatever’s comfortable that you like (or don’t completely hate) the look of. A helmet will only be worthwhile if you wear it.

Combination. Some songs call for a pick sound, so I use one for those. I’m not sure why there is so much stigma about using a pick. It’s a way to get a certain sound. Sure, playing with a pick puts certain limits on what you can do, but limits aren’t a bad thing.

As someone who is also a guitar player my guess is they need to chill with the gain. Heaviness is in the playing, not necessarily in a super distorted sound. See Black Sabbath, AC/DC, etc... A guitar sound that leaves space for others is a beautiful thing.

After a pretty long wait and much discussion I was offered a spot in this band yesterday and I accepted. The band I sing and play guitar in is putting out a new recording on Tuesday and playing a release show on the 23rd. The new band is playing on the 31st and can’t start rehearsing again...

LOL. Those are my faves when I play guitar. Seems worth it, but I’d send it off for carbon dating before paying a “vintage” price.
