I suffered from tendonitis not to long ago from what my doctor told me was "overuse". I had the pain in my right wrist (german bow). My teacher told me that in result of overplaying and not taking frequent breaks when I practice caused my tendonitis. I took a week off from practicing to recover...
I tend to go either way in calling it "upright" or "double". But if I just say "bass", everyone immediately thinks of the bass guitar for some reason. So I always have to do the: "No the *double bass hand motions* bigger bass." ignorant people.
Off topic: Anyone else hear that a former student of Hurst at North Carolina U is replacing Hurst at IU? Faculty members of NC came by my highschool to play, and I talked to there violist because he was a graduate of IU. He told me that there bass teach is supposedly replacing Hurst.
