Double Bass Summer Festivals 2012

Well right now I am looking at brevard (waiting to see if I was accepted!) or sewannee.

Does interlochen give out scholarships? That was the only thing that stopped me from applying. I don't really know any bass players who go there so I decided not to take the chance.

Interlochen gives some scholarships, some based on merit and some based on financial aid, or a combination.
I went last year and got a job to afford full tuition, but this summer I got one of the full ride scholarships they offer. It's subjective.

a lot of people complain about how expensive pursuing music is (it can be pricey, don't get me wrong) but a lot of the time if you're good enough and play your cards right you can eliminate a lot of the expenses.

And I have no clue when I'll get the results. I was suppose to get them by now but I recently found out they extended the deadline, so it might take a bit longer.

I auditioned for Music Academy, Shelswig Holstein, Tanglewood Music Festival and Verbier Symphony festival because it was a tape so it was easy to make. I havent heard back from Tanglewood or Verbier, I am alternate for both S. Holstein and Music Academy. Has anyone else heard yet???? Does anyone else know of good things to do during the summer? What is Wabass like?

Verbier is crazy hard to get into... Isnt that a program of mostly college students?

I got waitlisted for the tanglewood two week bass workshop (rejected from the young artists orchestra) and I got a pretty substantial merit scholarship for interlochen. This summer though ill probably be going to the marrowstone music festival with Diana Gannet.

Yes, mattburgbass, I'm going back to camp this summer too!
There are two orchestras- WYSO (top) and IP (bottom), each with 8 with a total of 16. They have auditions every two weeks and people sometimes change group and/or chair, as well. Both are fantastic, regardless, and you get lessons with both Jack Budrow and Larry Hurst (3 apiece, rotating every week)
It's amazing. You'll love it, I guarantee it.

You'll love every musical aspect (I also went last year) for sure!
The food, cabins, and rules maybe not so much...

Hurst and Budrow are incredible teachers/people.

One tip, try to maximize your time spent in "the shed" (where you keep your bass, you'll understand when you are there). It's one of the few air-conditioned buildings.
