Notes on E string bad sound.

Dead or dying strings maybe? Try some different EQ on your amp? Personally, for anything rock, I avoid playing much above the 7th fret on the E string anyways. I'll grab those notes on the A string. I used to play the E string a lot more until I started watching live clips of rock and punk bands...

Notes on E string bad sound.

So many questions. Which bass? What amp? Which strings? Fingerstyle or a pick? What is your volume and tone set at? What style of music?

    NBD:Sire V3

Im surprised you dont see more of these to be honest, but I get why. Its the same thing I thought about them. I dont play jazz or slap, I love the Fender J sound, I dont want Marcus Miller's name on my headstock, all those knobs look confusing etc...Plus you dont see them a lot in music stores...

How do you like the U5? I love short scales and was looking at it online after just getting the V3.

    Boss Katana Bass ...

I can’t see how anyone is making an 18 pound 1x10 A/B amp. The Katana is 37 pounds. Besides, every place that sells them from Amazon to MF says they are Class D. AFAIK, solid state can be used with any power section. Also, aren’t all non tube amps solid state? If the smaller amps are solid...

Yep. If you would have told me a few months ago that I’d own and love a Sire bass and Katana bass amp, I’d have said no way. Both have quickly become favorites.

    Sire Bass Club!

Just joined the club with a V3! Ive owned dozens of basses and played dozens more, this is arguably my favorite already. Had no interest in one and wasn't even looking for one today, left with one! More in my NBD thread.

    NBD:Sire V3

Wow, how have I never played one of these? I dont really like signature guitars or guitars with players names on them (J. Mascis JM the exception) and Ive always been more of a Squier/Fender user. Ive owned dozens of basses and played dozens more and this might be my favorite yet. This thing is...

Why aren't medium scale basses (32") more popular?

The Squier CV Jaguar is a 32 inch scale, an excellent bass under $500 and just as good, if not better than any MIM Fender bass Ive owned or played. The CV line has gotten so good, paying near a grand for a MIM Fender is absurd. Unless of course you just need that name on your headstock...

    NAD:Boss Katana 110

The 110 is not just a practice amp IMO. I havent used it in a band setting but it can get LOUD. I wont get into the whole A/B vs Class D thing again, but this is not like a Rumble 40 or an Ampeg RB 1x10. Ive had both those amps and they are basically practice amps. The Katana is way louder than...

    Boss Katana Bass ...

Very likely. I just know there is no way the V3 Rumbles are A/B at that weight. The Rumble 40 1x10 is only 18 pounds while the Katana 60 1x10 is more than twice as heavy at 37 pounds. Thats one downside to A/B vs Class D and Ive owned both amps, but I'll take the better tone with way more...

    Yes!

    NAD:Boss Katana 110

Another thing I forgot that I should point out is the weight. You mentioned the Rumble 40 as your "grab and go", and its only 18 pounds. The Katana 110 weighs over twice as much, its 37 pounds. One of the downsides of an A/B power section.

    Boss Katana Bass ...

I wish music had gotten louder out here. These days, even bars are increasingly having a sound guy and volumes are kept at levels you can easily talk over. But Im in Southern California where almost every bar or small club is near residential areas and neighbors complain. Last venue I played...
