Double Bass Rabath teacher in nyc

I don't know how much he teaches, but try Shawn Conley. He has both teaching and performance diplomas from Francois and studied with Paul Ellison at Rice. He's an incredibly multi-talented bassist and one of the best musicians I know. Also a very nice guy.

Double Bass yo string addicts, new Pirastro Passione string?

Now that they've been out a little bit longer, any more opinions on these strings? I'm thinking about trying them out.

    Double Bass College Auditions

I've never worked with either personally, but everybody I know who has worked with Ben Levy has really liked him. Since it looks like you live in Boston now, I'd ask both teachers for a trial lesson to help you decide. Since you are already accepted to their studios, I can't imagine they'd...

    Double Bass College Auditions

Congrats, me too. Did your acceptance tell you which studio? Mine didn't say. Ed's studio was the only one I put down on my application though.

    Double Bass College Auditions

I'm not sure exactly how many people on the 5th - I left right after my audition. I do know that there were 5 people in the morning session, when I auditioned, and I'm sure much more in the afternoon. And yeah, I agree it was so awesome to have gotten feedback from Hal and Edgar. I think...

    Double Bass College Auditions

How'd you guys do at Curtis? I'm pretty happy with how my audition went - being the last audition I didn't really sweat it and just had fun with it. Hal and Edgar were both so nice and the audition was comfortable and didn't seem rushed at all or anything. Good luck to everyone as decisions...

Double Bass any thoughts about the current economic/job situation?

I don't think "quit now" is the message Jason is intending to send out to students. Rather, I think he is doing students a favor by providing such a resource that lets students know the realities that they may be in for should they choose this career. While the information that Jason reveals...

Double Bass Being a professional solo bassist.

Francois Rabbath, anyone? He's recorded several CDs, composed great solo pieces, published method books, brought about innovation to both how the bass is played and even to the bass itself, and continues to perform and teach to this day (he's turning 80 in a couple weeks).

Double Bass any thoughts about the current economic/job situation?

Has anyone heard about this? Apparently they may even start over with a new DSO according to this article in The Detroit News.... http://www.detnews.com/article/20110221/ENT01/102210354/DSO--Change-tune-or-be-replaced "The DSO administration is prepared to move forward with a newly assembled...

    Double Bass College Auditions

Mine was OK. A little different than the others so far (Rice and USC). Mine was relatively short - all they asked for was for two solos. I just did the Courante from Suite 1 and first movement of Kouss. I was really surprised and bummed I didn't get to play any excerpts, since I felt that...

    Double Bass Domaine Forget

I heard last year about 80 people applied, and about 20 got in. Most bass students are college level, a few older high schoolers, and even a couple professionals. I went last year for four weeks and it was the best.

    Double Bass Practice Routine!!!

I've found that a practice routine is pretty personalized. My practice routine has changed quite a bit the last few years, all depending on what goals are an what I'm working on. The first and most valuable thing I recommend you do before establishing a routine is to establish goals...
